11:09 AM ET 07.24 | The talk about Chris Paul coming to the Orlando Magic is intensifying. An espn.com story, published tonight, says that the Magic have emerged as the superstar point guard's most preferred trade destination. Paul reportedly is intrigued by the possibility of teaming with center Dwight Howard. Paul is no fool; he knows what he could do if paired with the game's top center.

Orlando has enough talent on their roster to be able to put together a trade that would make New Orleans feel like they got great value out of a Paul trade. New Orleans need help at almost every position, and Orlando has enough depth that they could push a 1 and a 3 their way without losing too much.

Go to New York Bro! You already planned that at Carmelo Anthony's wedding. Next thing you know Melo asks for a trade too lol

But the question is why would NO trade Paul when he is under contract? I would say screw him and try to build a winning team around him. They still have him under contract for this year and the next, why not try and build a winning team around him and if they can't get it done trade him before his option. They will be slammed with offers and usually when teams are desparate they will include a little more.
They still won't get a ton of value for him but a couple young players and picks could be worth the wait.

Maybe it will end up with Melo, Paul and Howard in Orlando. That could be some real trouble for the rest of the league.

Its a damned if you do and damned if you dont scenario my man. If they don't trade him, he won't play hard and basically throws the season for them. If they do trade him, no matter the value they get from the perceived players they suffer in terms of dollars. The hornets need to sell tickets to cut a profit and they won't be selling tickets by losing paul. When you trade a superstar player, you almost never get the true value in return you get what you can get. They may be pigeon holed into trading him thanks to LBJ basically being his agent now. If ORL pulls the trigger on this, Paul is already quoted as saying he wants to play in NY in 2011 with Anthony and Stoudamire, what guarantee's would the magic have he'd stay? They better damn sure make him sign a long term deal as part of this trade if it goes down, else they'll give up half their roster to get a player that they watch walk away in a year's time with zero compensation. This is why the lockout is inevitable my friend, the players are not meant to control their destiny off the court every season when things don't go their way, they are meant to control their destiny ON the court. NBA needs a hard salary cap and to give teams a franchise player tag like the NFL, else small market teams (like NO) may as well disappate during the lockout and the league reduce to 5-6 teams because thats what we will have. We fans want parody, we don't want the same 5 teams in a title game all decade long. That is why the NFL is so great and the NBA needs to model themselves after that system before it becomes too late. Does anyone here know the most profitable NBA team last year? If anyone said the clippers you won. They made 19 million last year... and they are the most profitable?! Why even bother owning a team in a small market if its a money sink with no hope of titles or big time players? The players want more money too and they make 55% of the current revenue to the point most teams lose hundreds of millions in just afew short years. The players suffer from delusions of grandeur and will be the reason we have no NBA after this season for abit.

If Paul goes to Orlando they will immediately be the team to beat. Sure the Heat will contend because of Wade, James and Bosh but their bench is skeptical. Now the Magic on the other hand, they have a great starting 5 and a solid bench.

I agree with most of the things you said but I don't think CP would tank the season just to force a trade. He would be silly to do this because then he has intregrity issues and teams are less willing to invest when players choose when they want to play.

So true. The only x factor will be, how much that bench is depleted by this trade if it comes about.

True, I didn't think of that. If I was NO and thinking of trading him, I would ask for the world and if you only get a couple countries then that is ok!

I don't think he'd tank it, but he may not give it his all and play half ass because his heart isn't in it. It's basically something that can't be proven though. And Paul is known to have a dirty streak they buried when he went NBA (granted he matured ALOT) I'll never forget the time in the ACC tournement in 2004 when he walked up behind Julius Hodge WWF style and punched him in the groin from behind. Was kinda funny but real dirty, I'd like to say Paul wouldn't tank to get out but I wouldn't bet on it either, he really wants out and not playing up to par may be his only leverage.

I really want Paul here in NY. I've wanted him here for quite a while actually but just didn't see it as remotely possible. Now, although I don't know how likely it is, I know its at least possible.

He will end up in NY whether its by trade or just packin up and walking there next year. He has already said he will join 'Melo and A'mare in NY in 2011, which is why I said if I'm the magic they better make sure this trade comes with a long term sign as well, otherwise why give up half the bench for a player that walks away in a year and you get nothing in return? It's a gamble and unless he'd be willing to sign a long deal I wouldn't bite on this trade unless i was NY who has nothing to lose and only everything to gain with this trade.

The problem is that NY doesn't have the pieces to offer. NO is going to want a LOT for CP and NY doesn't have much to give.
Besides, he would be much, much more effective in Orlando IF they can pull off this trade. If I was him I would much rather play with Howard in a state that has no state tax. They are a solid team without him and a possible championship with him.

On the other side, IF NY could swing this deal they would also have a great 1-2 punch and be very fun to watch.

I sure hope it works out. Screw Lebron. Everyone who has been hanging around T&R for any length of time knows I never wanted that dope. But I will say here and now that losing out on Chris Paul would be a disappointment for at least 1 die hard Knicks fan... ME.

Don't lose hope even if he gets traded to ORL, as I have stated afew times, unless that trade comes with a long-term sign as part of the deal, he will walk to NY regardless. Which is why it would be foolish of ORL to trade for a player who may just walk for free in a year. ORL has a good thing goin for it and a good bench, depleting it for a one year run is abit too risky. So keep an eye on that trade my NY friend (go duke!) even if it goes down, if no long term deal is signed you can just count the days until he walks up to NY to join his buddy Stoudamire. 'Melo is almost guarantee'd there despite that he won't comment publically on it (he's wise) His hometown is NY his college was Syracuse and he lives in NY during the offseason, NY is his home and he wants to go home badly. Although he does really luv denver and the people there so I imagine his leaving would actually be heartfelt by him and not just a public stroking of the ego like James.

WOW!!! Melo,CP3 and Howard vs LBJ,Wade and Bosh...TALK ABOUT EVEN STEVEN!!!!

And yet, neither of them will be championship contendors with the league locked out. The lakers will threepeat next year and after that, honestly, who knows. The league may take a year or two off and look drastically different when we see it next.
