Eagles high on rookie QB

07:39 AM ET 07.25 | The Eagles quarterback who has caused the most offseason buzz in the building is not Kevin Kolb. And it's not Michael Vick, either. It's Mike Kafka, the team's fourth-round pick out of Northwestern. Philly offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg tells me Kafka has been "on fire" in offseason practices, and praised him for his quick decisions. He said Kafka has been one of the most accurate rookie passers in the offseason that he ever has seen.

And that's probably just the boost that Kevin Kolb is looking for. Or are the Eagles just talking themselves into being ok with cutting Michael Vick?

What a name for a quarterback. "Kafka kept facing kafkaesque pressure all day from the Cowboys...." The headlines will write themselves the day he becomes the starter.

This just gives them an excuse to cut Vick, if he proves that he's a good backup to Kolb, I wouldn't be surprised if Vick is sent packing.

Should be interesting, yes.

The commish might force their hand by suspending Vick.

Indeed, this could get interesting really quick.

Whether he's good or not is irrelevant. This man has a future in writing. Have you read "The Metamorphosis" or _The Castle_? Great stuff. Keep writing, young man.

Just getting used to what their afterlife will feel like when they all land in Hell, FJM.

This is a big if. What if Kolb doesn't have the ability to lead this team? Who would you rather turn to? I wonder if they part ways with Vick fairly soon and then bring in a seasoned backup to be 2nd or 3rd string just in case neither remaining quarterback can handle it. Vinny Testaverde is out there somewhere, right?

So many QBs' So little talent. Maybe they can trade Kolb to the Giants. Either way Andy Reid must be getting a little worried about his job security.

And there is a hell of a lot of pressure on Kolb with the Eagles' lack of running game.

Keep all (3) QB's, have Vick be the Wild Cat player and Kafka be the true back up.

I think Vinny's in an old folks home with Jeff George.

"Eagles high on Rookie QB"

............."offseason buzz"............

Is this some doper thread?

And last Thursday Mornhinweg had this to say about Vick..
"In our minicamps, you could see that great, great athleticism," Mornhinweg said. "I would expect great things from Michael Vick this year."
Marty is just a happy, happy camper right now. Sounds like they should play all 3 QBs at the same time....

Given these statements, is it really all that surprising to see Mornhinweg's record as a head coach?

You are the only one, the Eagles paid Vick a hefty bonus just before his last altercation and therefore they already have money invested in the guy. If they "send him packing" they'll lose the cash they just gave him. Plus if he's not the starter he's useful as a wild cat and trick play guy so he can still help the team.
