08:00 AM ET 07.25 | Several well-placed sources within the last three days have told Slap Shots that is becoming less and less likely Donald Fehr will assume a position at or near the top of the NHLPA masthead when the search committee recommends a candidate to fill the position of executive director. Fehr remains an advisor who has consulted with the PA regarding Ilya Kovalchuk, but questions have arisen regarding his involvement in last summer's messy firing of Paul Kelly.

First good news of the day. The less we hear from Fehr, the better and the Players' union can find someone competent who doesn't have an ego the size of Saturn to lead them.

Looks like he's getting ready to kiss someone's ass. We know it's not the ****'s cause Fehr's looking up.
Canuck eh?

Good. Fehr shouldn't touch the NHL with a ten foot pole.

I agree with the posts above. With Fehr they were probably headed to a lock out and that would have been disastrous for the league.

Too bad Lacroix switched to management. He could've done that job. JF Sauve, maybe. Bobby Smith's name also comes to mind.

I love this guy and i would take another year off from my favorite sport to see him crush Bettman. The crap the league has going on is never ending with mini me. It baffles me as to how he keeps whitewashing smart owners. Uhhh....about that big TV contract you promised gary...
Being a Rags fan i hate that they suffer (insert sather bash here) for having a profitable franchise when supporting 6-8 teams that dont belong. Nowhere does survival of the fittest come into bettmans plans. At this point its about him saving face and not whats best for the league.
Imagine an 18 team league with a 80 million salary cap...thin the herd.
Again i love my hockey but if it takes a lockout to stop this bleeding ill take it.

Nine teams per conference and the Leafs would still miss the playoffs.

They'd still fill the ACC every night though.

I don't think any kind of a belabored re-tread is gonna get much done. They really need someone that can actually think - and preferably one for the other side as well. If it wasn't almost silly - I'd say the Right Honourable Paul Martin, for the League, and say, Fran Huck and/or Ken Dryden for the players assoc. - and make whatever they come up with, absolutely binding on all the parties.
G.B. would be whole lot happier with Rob Blagoyavich for the League, and somebody like Chris Chelios for the players, though - then they could hash it all out, over Chillie and Borscht.
