09:26 AM ET 07.25 | The decision whether to reinstate Antonio Margarito to boxing in the U.S. becomes a much more interesting issue now that Manny Pacquiao has decided to fight him. "There are a number of states who'd license Margarito," the fighters' promoter, Bob Arum, said Saturday, after determining with Pacquiao's management Friday that Margarito would be the alternate foe Nov. 13 to a failed bid to stage the sport's super-fight, Pacquiao versus Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Its not THE fight i wanted to see. BUT, i'll take it.

FIRST!

Pacquiao's speed will be too much for Margarito. Margarito will not be a defensive shell like Clottey.....Margarito will try to impose his size on Manny. I don't think it will work. Manny has great side to side lateral movement and throws those awkward punches from awkward angles. Margarito will be TOO SLOW to evade them.

I think Manny Pacquiao takes him out inside 6. I can see Manny putting a SHELLACKING on Margarito.

Will the California or Nevada Athletic Commission let Margarito fight? Probably......... Las Vegas
Is Magarito already allowed to fight in Texas? Looking at Dallas again, big gate and PPV but not even discussed
What's the talk about the fight being in Monterey Mexico? Margarito is Mexican so it makes sense.
Why doesn't Manny fight in the Phillipines? Not enough money to be made?
Manny's demand: Catch weight of 150 lbs. Margarito ok with it. Margarito 5'11" vs Manny 5'6"
Looks like Mayweather will have a meeting with Miguel Cotto in Puerto Rico soon while Mayweather is vacationing there.
Boxing enthusiasts and the general public have been less than enthusiastic to disgusted by the Pac Margarito upcoming fight (contract not signed yet and probably won't be for a few weeks.

I don't like this match....but, it is a good "business sense"....Margarito is a BIG NAME in the boxing community and it will sell......As a fan, I am not looking forward to it.....I see this fight being ONE-SIDED.....I'm don't give Margarito much of a chance for an upset.

I don't like the Mayweather-Cotto match-up either.....In my opinion, the top fighters at 154 are Sergio Martinez & Paul Williams...I wish both Manny & Mayweather would fight these guys instead.....TOO MUCH RISK, I guess.....

My opinion is that BOTH Mayweather and Pacquiao are cowards.

July 26, 2010  01:00 AM ET

No, the biggest coward is Bob Arum. Manny is no coward and Mayweather is certainly no coward.
Take Arum out of the equation and they could work a deal.
Heh, Michael 30 with 2 friggin comments so far. If you don't know anything about the fight game then shut your trap. Your comments are pre-teen. As for for your six reasons, they really are in left field.
1. Faith in God - Presupposes that Mayweather does not have faith in God. Prove it.
2. Loyalty to his fans - What the hell does that mean. People who like Mayweather are very loyal to him. They may not like him but they are loyal to him because of his talents in the ring.
3. Yes Pac brings excitement to the boxing world but he doesn't nearly have the gate and PPV that Mayweather has. Do you know that Mayweather was number 3 in the highest paid althletes in the world this past year. Only tiger woods and phil michelson topped him. Floyd made over 60 million with most from fight in the right. If that is not bringing excitement I don't know what is. Manny didn't even crack the top 50.
4. You say the ability to rise above the odds. Tell me how? Did you see Shane give Floyd the best shots that he has ever taken and his chin is like a rock. Did you see how Floyd adapted to the fighting style of Shane and then beat him to a pulp.
5. Humility - I give you that one is spades.
6. Fight style - Big mistake on this one. Manny's stye is ready made for Floyd. You have a raging bull against a polished matador. Floyd will pick, pick, pick, bang, pick pick. Manny's response will be try to get in close to do the damage but Mayweather is far stronger and can tie him up easily. It reminds me of Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard. In the first fight, Leonard tried to mix it with Duran and lost the fight. Not the second time. He fought his fight and Duran was so exasperated he quit in the ring and said "no mas".

AGREE......Mayweather is a very STRONG fighter....I think a lot of people underestimate how strong he really is.....it showed in the Delahoya fight....even though Delahoya was the "bigger" man in the ring, Mayweather was DEFINITELY SATRONGER......

Also, I don't mean to bust your bubble but I don't think Duran ever said "no mas"...LOL....that was just the media trying to translate...LOL....he did QUIT......but he said "yo no voy a peliar con ese payaso"....which translates to: "I'm not going to fight with this clown".......Ray Leonard was making Duran miss & sticking his tongue out at him, showboating.....Duran's MACHISMO was humiliated.....he wanted Ray Leonard to stand toe to toe and trade punches with him......

I've watched that fight a million times.....LOL

*STRONGER

Yeah, he has risen above the odds. I didn't think he was going to beat Delahoya....I was very, very, very surprised.
He does bring A LOT of excitement in his fights. You are GUARANTEED 99.999% he will give it his all to make it a good fight. He does have a FAN FRIENDLY fight style....everyone like knockouts......

I think 20 years down the road he will be considered one of the GREATEST FIGHTERS of all - time pound for pound.....

Top 10 DEFINITELY

I can't believe boxing is allowing this fight to happen. Margarito is a cheater and no telling how long he has been cheating. He got caught cheating then got K.Oed by Sugar Shane. Pac is a huge name int he sport. Mayweather is hoping that Pac loses so he has another excuse for dodging him. This shows how much in boxing champions are cowards to fight the best of the best. They should eliminate all the belts but 1 in each weight class. Again another low blow for boxing, they are proving more and more why MMA is becoming the main sport in fighting. Sorry MadMex but you have to agree :)

NOOOOOO...I don't agree

The same will happen to MMA when fighters start making 30 & 40 MILLION dollars per fight....they will start being more "picky" on who they fight ..They will pick the fights that will make them the most money....just wait and see..it will happen..........Just like Buckey Badger said, "MMA is in it's infant stages"....

Just wait till MMA & UFC fighters start making million dollar paydays....

It's kind of like the guy in school who has a hard time getting laid......he'll take whatever he can get....where as the guy who gets all the chicks, can pick and chose who he wants to take home.......

You get the concept....... right? =)

You are speaking of the future which right now is irrevelant, I am talking about the present. You can't say this is going to happen because you don't know. Nobody thought Lebron James would join another man's team and not be the man, that is why there is so much hate going on in the sport of basketball. Plus different up bringing and too many belts. There is only 1 belt for each weight class meaning 1 champ and everybody is after him meaning more hungry fighters, right now MMA Champs are fighting the best and not dodging fighters. Last 2 UFC PPV have generated over 1 millions buys and no telling what next PPV event is going to do since its a very stacked card. But I disagree with your comments since you speaking of something that is not happening and only predicting.
