07:23 AM ET 07.26 | Can one player be the key to a Falcons resurgence? Atlanta has made one significant player acquisition that may return it to the playoffs. The Falcons allowed an alarming 55 explosive passing plays (20 yards or more) last season -- including eight for touchdowns, according to STATS, Inc. -- which partly explains why Atlanta slipped from an 11-5 playoff team in '08 to a 9-7 also-ran in '09. Falcons officials say the addition of Dunta Robinson, a physical cornerback who played his first six NFL seasons in Houston, will help them rebound in '10. "Dunta has been a very effective corner in this league," Falcons coach Mike Smith said.

I'm not sure about if this acquisition will help them get over the top, but certain players recovering from their injuries will.

The injuries didn't help and the secondary really struggled for long stretches last year so in a sense, Robinson will help if he stays healthy. After his ACL injury in 2007 he's played well, just not great.

Dunta will have to turn himself around before he can help the Falcons. He hadn't played well the last couple seasons in Houston which is why they let him go w/out a fuss.

Dunta is a solid cornerback who has taken a few steps back in the last couple years. He really looked liked he was going to be an elite cornerback in years 2 - 4, and he just lost a little something. Not sure if it was motivation, or what.
I don't think his acqusition will take them over the top, but hopefully being moved to ATL will re-ignite a fire under this guys butt and it'll make an impact on D.

Think Michael Turner's health is the key to Atlanta getting back into the playoffs (which they should).

Dunta and a gatling gun is what my Falcons secondary needs.

Turner needs to stay healthy and get some blocking and they'll be fine. If he runs to his potential they'll go deep into playoffs as long as their secondary doesn't get burned 55 times for 20 yards or more.

Injuries hurt the Falcons last year: Ryan (QB), Turner (RB), White (WR), Douglas (WR) among others, but the ones I named are your skill position players and they still went 9-7. Defensively, they should be stronger, especially at DB. I see them going deep in the play-offs.
