D-Backs sold low on Haren

07:27 AM ET 07.26 | No matter the player to be named later, Arizona may have been able to find more for Dan Haren. The Arizona Republic reports that the PTBL "is a top prospect" but is "not going to be Mike Trout," who ranks as one of the elite prospects in all of baseball. No other Angels were included in Baseball America's midseason update of the top 25 prospects in baseball, so while the PTBNL may prove to be someone very good it won't be an elite prospect. ... Saunders is generally overrated because his career win-loss record is much better than his ERA, secondary numbers, or raw stuff, and to get Haren by packaging him with three non-elite prospects was a no-brainer for the Angels.

It sounds to me the D Backs just wanted to get rid of the guy. They've been shopping him since he got there, he's mentioned every year at this time. He's the most talked about trade bait pitcher right next to Ted Lilly. They should be happy with that and just leave it alone.

there's low then there's Flea Market low. Joe Saunders? Uh...yeah. He's having a crummy year and the D-Backs get him for their ace? The Halos snookered AZ in a BIG way!

I cannot believe the D-Backs didnt get more for this guy. He's an Ace just having a bad year. Which actually, he's just having worse luck this year. Angels got lucky here. Not only will he show up and be an Ace, again, but they can also control him for a couple years. Not just a rental arm here...

But why then didn't they trade Haren for someone younger of equal quality to Saunders, since Saunders will be arbitration eligible next year. They could have saved a lot more money by picking up someone young that they could just renew on the cheap. I wonder if the D-Backs took this deal thinking they could trade Saunders at the end of the year. Otherwise, it's hard to make sense of this trade. The prospects don't seem to project into future stars or even starters.

Weaver, Haren, Santana, Piniero, not a bad 1-4. Hopefully we can start producing more runs on a consistent basis.

yes that is what we need more the anything. The Angel starters this weekend were outstanding and including Saunders and got no run support in Texas.

Ah yes.... the crappy sports fans of today. Thank you for the refresher course... though just 15 years ago, LOYALTY (going both ways between team and player) was the number one word used in sports.
