Lakers in dark about Bryant surgery plans

07:47 AM ET 07.28 | Kobe Bryant's knee surgery was performed by a "physician other than a team physician," and Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak remains unsure whether his star will have surgery to treat his right index finger. "[Bryant] continues to see doctors. I've not heard an update regarding a surgery. As the summer goes on, it's less and less a possibility as you get closer and closer to training camp," Kupchak said. The Lakers announced last week that Bryant had arthroscopic surgery the previous week on his right knee, an operation that Kupchak said "went well."

"If it's already broke, don't fix it!" Kobe has been playing with a broke finger for years.

I am surprised Kobe hasn't had surgery on his finger yet. I wonder if he feels any pain when he uses it. I hope his knee holds up for the reg season because next year final is going to get interesting.

The best part about this story is the fact that no-one is worried about his ability to come back and defend the championship again!!

Very true, his gameplay is amazing for him to always have injuries like that.

I'm not so sure his finger is broken. If I'm not mistaken, I think it is a tendon problem.

Actually, it is/was described as "a complete tear of the radial collateral ligament, an avulsion fracture, and a volar plate injury at the MCP joint". What ever the hell that means!

Kobe's proved that no matter what he does in the off season he's always ready by the time the season starts. He's the grand master of the game. Nobody deserves to question him on anything.

Why is this even news? Kobe is one of the most dedicated players in the league. The man plays through injuries like no other player. If he says he'll be ready by training camp, I have no doubts he'll be ready by training camp.

You are the one that brought up OLD news when you stated "Last time Kobe had knee surgery, he got caught cheating on his wife". Maybe you should just move on!!

I am a little surprised that he doesn't take care of his finger but maybe it's something that surgery can't solve. I think he will be ready by training camp.
Bynum delaying his knee surgery on the other hand is not good news. Why he waits to the last minute is beyond me.

Mitch released a statement saying Bynum's surgery was delayed by 10 days because of a scheduling problem with his Dr., not his doing.
