Beebe not to mess with Texas-OU matchup

07:50 AM ET 07.28 | Dan Beebe, in light of losing the Big 12 title game, may seek to move "two or three" other headlining matchups to fill the void. However, he said moving the Oklahoma-Texas game to that weekend probably wasn't an option. "The major consideration is to keep the traditions of the conference as well as we can, and the traditions of that game are around the State Fair of Texas," Beebe said. "Unless they want to do something differently, I don't think that's something we'd mess with."

Do Texas and Oklahoma think that game is more significant than some other Big 12 matchups?

I must say, the Texas-Oklahoma game at the state fair is on the top of my list of college football games to see. I've been to the Florida-Georgia game a bunch and I love those games where both teams own 50% of the stands.

Great article about how nothing happened.

Sigh.

Uh, ............................ yep. Significant in terms of tradition, significant in terms of determining conference champion, significant in terms of viewing audience (and therefore TV revenues for the conference).

I actually knew that, but I was hoping to cause some serious outrage among newbies that root for one team or the other. I'm guessing that will still happen if this winds up being the "designated 7/28 CFB thread".

Absolutely!! This is a decades-long rivalry. It has survived complete conference changes. Beebe should be fired for even having to state the obvious.

Oh, and the Longhorns will beat OU like a red-headed stepchild this year.

Good Idea!

Now bring in TCU and Boise, and the Big 12 is set

You have a typo - it's the game of the "weak".

If they were playing this coming Saturday, I'd watch.

I'll probably watch some of both games anyway, if they are the most-competitive matchups at that moment.

Now they really need to open a topic about Auburn winning the national championship....um in 2004. LMAO, typical Auburn, u get gifted a national title without winning it on the field. Oh Auburn you continue to give us Alabama fans chuckles.

Memo to Dan Beebe:These are the two schools that generate the revenue holding your conference together and funding your paycheck. It would be wise not to cross swords with either of them.............. Damn, I'm ready for another RRSO. Can the season start soon?

Agree, can't get here soon enough. Anyone know why it got moved up a week this year? It's always been the 2nd saturday in October, not the first.
