11:00 AM ET 07.29 | Facing declining attendance, Indianapolis Motor Speedway has announced that it will drop ticket prices for the 2011 Brickyard 400. General admission tickets will cost $30 in advance and $35 on race day, while other seats will cost between $50 and $65. Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation president and CEO, hopes that the lower prices will help boost interest and attendance for one of the Cup's most popular events. "This new ticket pricing program will make the Brickyard 400 more accessible to more fans while also providing more choices for value-conscious consumers."

Duh, it only took a few years for Nascar to figure out that we have a sagging economy. Very good.

I can give two more reasons attendance is down for the Brickyard...
1.) The tire debacle of 2008
2.) Jimmie Johnson winning last year. When JPM got the supposed speeding penalty my dad and I noticed at least 1/4 of the fans leave the track.

Doesn't change the fact that this race is just awful. Even at no dollars to get in.

Nascar needs to encourage other tracks to do the same. I have found out in the last few days that my overall interest in Nascar is declining. There's only about 3 to 5 races I really look forward to each year. I doubt if I'll catch more than 20 laps for any race the rest of the season.

I'd much rather see the Cup guys race at IRP (or ORP, or whatever) than at the Brickyard. I love that short track. The Brickyard is a yawner. It may have tradition but it has no soul at all. At least not for (alleged) stockcars.

You fans should read the whole story first ;( Ticket prices have dropped $20 in the lower rows of the Southeast Vista, Southwest Vista, Northeast Vista and H Stand grandstands. Those tickets will now range from $50-65. (Lower rows...Guess where you can not to much see from)
General admission tickets, which were sold for the first time in 2010 for $40, will be reduced to $30 in advance and $35 on race day.
;( Prices for some premium seats were INCREASED slightly as part of the new program....(the great seats right)

Thanks Nova.
Always on top of them. Not sure what we would do without you around to keep them on their toes.
Like you said on one of our blogs the TV rating went down.
If people are not watching when it is on TV what makes NASCAR think they will pay anything to go to the race?

can we add to that with
3) the racing sucks now
4) the COT has been a collossal failure..
as for the fans who went to the "race" there in 2008, they should ALL be given their money back..that wasnt a race, it was around 20 or so 15 lap sprints...if you started that "race" in the back, you stayed there, you didnt have enough time to pass anyone within the 10-15 laps until the next caution flew, and you couldnt take 2 tires for track position cuz the 2 you left on your car would explode...that race was embarrassing.

And BTW- i think Juan P Montoyas speeding penalty last year was one of those phantom things, so that the "chosen one" would win...im not into conspiracies, but that one reeked.

Surely NAScrap wouldn't do something like that? Really? Naw, I can't believe it. ;-)

that just shows how much people cant stand jimmie johnson, because JPM doesnt have many fans. I know when I go to bristol every year, the 160000 people there poor on the boos towards him. And other places I have been as well.

I not to sure but, would not of NAPCAR got more PR / TV time, from JPM winning BOTH INDY 500 & Brickyard 400....first driver to do BOTH ....vs then JJ winning another race.

Nova, when I was at the races there (the first 13), I found myself watching the big screen in front of me rather than the racing on the track. That is my fault. Why would I want to spend all that money and go through all that hassle of getting to the track just to watch it on tv? That could be a reason why I stopped going.

Like it was pointed out....Go to the track vs Watch on TV....Track attendance down, but also TV rating went down too! .....and in a couple of weeks FOOTBALL vs NAPCAR.....it was kind of Funny, the Green Bay Packers held a share holder meeting (a share of stock is worth $0000), yesterday at Lambeau Field and 8,300 people show up.

see NAPCAR or Daytona are using the repaving of the track to sell tickets ;) Beginning on Monday, Aug. 2 at 9 AM and running through midnight on Aug. 8, race fans that purchase tickets for the 53rd annual Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 will automatically receive a portion of Daytona's original asphalt. Race fans that have renewed their 2011 DAYTONA 500 tickets or purchased between June 18 and Aug. 1 will also receive this offer.
Sound like the Packers...redid the field....and Sold patches of "The Frozen Tundra"

Eggcellent point, Nova...i just dont think the boobs who run the sport have much love for JPM...im not a fan of his, but i think maybe the turds who run the sport think its better for the common good to have the 48 win than JPM..

I happen to be a big JPM fan (his run at Mexico City was impressive, no matter how you see the dust-up with Pruett), and that penalty was just crap. The worst part is the fix was in on Sunday for Johnson since the beginning to, right after that first pit stop when he pulled right onto the race track and wasn't penalized. I don't care if the commentators say NASCAR told the drivers they could do it, when Johnson is the ONLY driver that does it you have to wonder.
So much doesn't sit right with Johnson and NASCAR... Indianapolis last year, Indianapolis this year on that first pit stop, California earlier this year (how did he beat the pace car without speeding?)...

I can understand everyones points on nascar officials being in love with johnson, but I dont think they have anything against JPM.. I mean espn for one is obsessed with montoya, and everyone was hoping he would win that race. If you went on msn, the papers, ect.. He was in the news as saying "will montoya do it this year" I do know one thing, THIS YEAR, his crew chief , then and I say then, JPM took his self out of the race..
