07:33 AM ET 07.30 | Former teammate LeRoy Butler has a different take on Brett Favre. [Butler] told fellow former NFL player Tom Waddle in a radio interview in Chicago today that he pities Favre for his inability to find something else to do with his life. "I actually feel sorry for the guy because he can't do like we do," Butler said. "I've always said, from the day when he cried in front of the media in Wisconsin and retired, the guy is a football player. He's not good at anything else." ... And he says Favre will return to the Vikings, because Favre can't imagine a life without football. "He's a football player," Butler said. "That's the only thing he wants to do and he's going to continue to do that."

Brett won't be happy unless he dies on the field. I can see the made-for-TV movie of his life already.

No, what's sad to the point of being pathetic is the guys who don't know when it really is over. Jeff George comes to mind. Maybe Jeff Garcia, too. They still want to play, but they don't have the skills to do it. Pathetic but NOT sad is JaMarcus Russell. He never had the skills to begin with.
Brett Favre still has the skills. Last year he was a QB most teams would have loved to have on their side.

Of course, Leroy wouldn't be out there making millions even if he could still play. He's totally moved on.

I had first thought that Favre's last game as a Packer would be his last ever, and when he went to the Jets it seemed sad and by the end of the season he seemed done, down and out. But, last year he played really well for minny and maybe if Adrian Peterson didn't have fumblesome hands towards the end of the game than Favre would have been back in the Super Bowl. If minny and Favre have a window to go to the Super Bowl of more than just last year, then I don't think it is sad. But, when the window is shut completely by Favre's play then it becomes sad.
Sad, is Lance Armstrong, not last year, but this year.
Sad, is Patrick Ewing, playing for the Sonics.
If his team can win because of him, and not despite of him, then I have no problem with Favre playing. But, obviously, when a legend becomes a liability and you've witnessed the end of a historical figure then it is sad. That being said, not too many NFL quarterbacks have played in the conference championship game during two of the the last three years, and both times Favre has been to overtime against the eventual Super Bowl champs. Yes, he threw picks in both of those games, but Favre is still a pretty darn good quarterback, and his stats and record from just last season back that up. In reality, with the team he has around him, Favre still has a really good chance to be playing in the next Super Bowl. If this is not the case then maybe it becomes sad.

I'm thinking that LeRoy is a bit jealous that Favre is still playing and he's not. What's tough to take as a Viking's fan is that people continue to criticize Favre for not deciding until late that he's coming back or playing another year. Hasn't he earned any respect to make this decision? He still performs and he would make most teams better. It's sickening to always hear the Favre talks but give it a rest and just let the man make a decision and live in peace.

The league has a history of stars hanging on. Dorsett playing in Denver. Montana playing in KC, Emmitt Smith in Arizona, Jerry Rice in Oakland. I'm sure there are a pile of others but those come to mind first.

If any of you are from Wisconsin, you would know that LeRoy Butler is the one that we should pitty. He is an arrogant piece of crap. He calls into local talk radio shows, and does what? He bad mouths alot of his ex-teammates. His only claim to fame is what he says that he invented, the Lambeau Leap. You look back at his career and that is the only thing that you are remembered for. I think that he is jealous that he isn't and will never be considered as a great football player like the guys that he trash talks, like Favre. So don't listen to a word that LeRoy has to say, he is the "Drama Queen."

Last year was a fluke, his best season ever, he needs to bow out NOW. The ViQueens are almost as bad as the Bengals, Cowboys, Lions, and Patriots for letting him keep them hanging. He will have another good year, but nothing like last year. He's a media **** - he can't live without the lime light. Hope he breaks a leg.

Emmitt and Rice both share a couple things with Favre. They had already won the Super Bowl (Dorsett too), yet they still craved historical status as all time leaders in statistical categories. Favre record for consecutive starts is amazing, and he plays the central role with a very good team, while Emmitt and Jerry Rice were second rate players with second rate teams by the end of their careers.
