Merriman holdout about 'comfortability' factor

07:34 AM ET 07.30 | Shawne Merriman ended speculation Thursday and said he, like Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill, will not open camp with the Chargers. "I'm waiting for the green light to have a great year," [Merriman] said. "I need to know I'm not going to be on the trade block every three weeks." ... Merriman said he is not looking for a long-term contract or even a raise from the $3.269 million the Chargers have offered in a one-year tender. He simply doesn't want to be in limbo. "It's not about me wanting more money," he said. "I will show what I deserve. I don't have to ask for it. I feel like I've proved what I'm worth, and I will still prove it. To me, it really comes down to, 'Am I on the trading block this week? The third week of the season, am I on the block?' Where is that comfortability for me?"

I agree...or find a different line of work...even with a multi-year contract nothing is permanent any more in sports.

Reality Check time, Shawnie... The way this guy ignores the facts and just keeps spouting the talking points like nobody noticed the events of the last couple of years, he should be on Fox News!
Fact is, you've sucked big time since you got busted, and there isn't a franchise in the league who's going to pay you what the Chargers do until you show ANY sign of being able to play to even half that level while NOT roided up.

Tell Merriman to stop worrying. They tried to trade his a##, but nobody wanted him. He should worry more about not being a salary cap cut before his contract is up.
