07:55 AM ET 07.30 | Kings defense corps takes another hit. [Defenseman] Matt Greene recently underwent surgery on his left shoulder, the club said Thursday. ... Greene, who is expected to be sidelined for up to three months, appeared in 75 games last season and scored two goals -- tying a career high -- and nine points. He ranked ninth in the NHL (third among defensemen) with 238 hits and recorded at least one blocked shot in 55 of his 75 games in leading the Kings with 126. Greene has become one of the Kings' steadier defensemen, a unit led by Jack Johnson and Norris Trophy nominee Drew Doughty. But after letting Sean O'Donnell jump to the Flyers as a free agent, the Kings' depth could be a question mark without Greene, even if they have to be without him for a short period.

Yes, as a Flyers fan, I envy the depth on defense they have. LA should be pretty good again this year.

It must drive the GM and Coaches crazy when these guys wait until half way through the off season to get operations. It is very common and makes me wonder sometimes if a needed surgery sometimes isn't delayed just enough to avoid training camp.I'm not sayin , i'm just sayin :)

haha good point!!! Who wants to attend training camp anyways. Weeks of physical grind and tension. However I think that depending on the injury the player and team medical staff will always look to rehab the injury first, initially thinking that they will have enough time, after a couple months and progress isnt where they expected to be then the late surgery takes affect.

Maybe he rationalized it by explaining that he will be fresher at the end of the season by missing time now?

This will just give one of there many young defenseman a chance in the bigs.

Good One !!! It was merely a bye product benefit that it allowed him 20 or 30 rounds of golf before getting cut.I always think about Ranger 19's point and wonder if the Coach gets pissed when the Trainers and therapists want to do their thing for a few months and then surgery ends up being the result anyways.

Screw the T&R guys ... I just wish the Oilers would've never traded Matt Green! That's what I wish!

The golf is therapy for his shoulder, no?

I agree about informing the coaching staff. There has to be some communication between the players and the organization regarding these things. I can understand players wanting to avoid surgery if possible, but I can see how this would drive coaches a bit batty. I guess the silver lining is that the season is so long, that teams can deal with this usually. It's not like football where a sizable chunk of the season would be missed.

DC you might want to call Harry for that. He's only got 7 seconds of his long weekend booked.

Agreed, and they will probably be there to stay.

Good call on getting rid of your "Beast of the East" tag earlier, Argos. The beasts got hammered pretty good last night.
