Heat coach Pat Riley confirmed Monday he plans to have a scout present today in New York for a workout by 36-year-old former Knicks guard Allan Houston, considering his team's presence "due diligence." Houston's agent, Bill Strickland, last week told ESPN Radio's New York affiliate that he was "90 to 95 percent" certain the 6-foot-6 shooting guard would be back in the league this coming season.

ARE U TELLING ME THE HEAT GOT RID OF OLD PLAYERS TO GET ANOTHER, NOT ONLY OLD BUT INJURY PRONE PLAYER!!! LMAO! THIS WOULD REALLY BE A DUMB MOE, THEY ALREADY MADE FATAL MISTAKES THIS SEASON BY LOSING KAPONO, POSEY AND EDDIE JONES!!!

September 11, 2007  11:00 AM ET

RETIRE ALREADY!!!!!

September 11, 2007  11:42 AM ET

Anyone wearing that hat shouldn't be allowed to play.

September 11, 2007  12:07 PM ET

Whatever. He's had like three years to recoop, I bet he can still drill open threes. He'll be a defensive liability, but he won't be a starter. Let him take up a spot on an Eastern Conference team, don't bother me. Just one more target for the raps to use.

If he's not gonna cost much and won't be demanding any guaranteed playing time, then I think he'll be fine with the Heat.

He could be better than your usual 11th or 12th man. Besides, Houston is an admirable character.

September 11, 2007  12:42 PM ET

NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more old players and coaches....while this is only like the 5th thing wrong with the NBA...it is a problem..and why most fans don't giving a flyin' crap anymore.

September 11, 2007  01:54 PM ET

he'd be ok in a real limited role - like when a player gets fouled + injured, and someone needs to come off the bench + shoot the free throws. that hat is ridiculous

September 11, 2007  02:44 PM ET

Allan cannot play for the Heat. He just can't.

September 11, 2007  03:53 PM ET

Come on...yes is will never be allan houston of old..but once a shooter always a shooter and he isnt that old only 36...give him 12-15 minutes a game and i bet he will avg. 10pts off the bench and shoot 40%+ from downtown....LETS GO KNICKS!!

September 11, 2007  04:48 PM ET

Are you kidding me..............I guess everybody on the Miami roster will be gone in 2 years.....Shaq,Wade, Gary's already gone, and Mister Riley will all be gone. Lakers part 2

September 11, 2007  05:45 PM ET

Houston can't seem to stay healthy long enough to do anyone any good. At the top of his game he was an excellent shooter, but every playground in America has a half dozen guys who can shoot. What do you do when the shot doesn't fall? How long do they expect to have him? Maybe a year or so. The Heat need a point guard. Is Troy Hutson's contract such that the salary cap is a problem?

September 11, 2007  07:46 PM ET

retarded, riley lost it... this guy is why the knicks are where they are seriously... his body cant take any hits, he bruises way too fast, and gets injured... he was a shooter, but still just a shooter, lacked defensive, passing was very ordinary and other than shooting houston wasnt that talented, recall he played with larry johnson, ewing and sprewell in their prime...solid roster still... miami management stop riley! rather than developin players side by side with veterans to give this team chance and save salary cap they are signing an additional player who wont help them... losing posey i dont understand, and now possibly signing allan houstan isnt going to make fans forget the lack of interest for players to head to miami and riley's weak judgement... miami isnt making the playoffs, surprising i think sixers will snatch it from them i think, as long as they play like they did in the second half...

September 11, 2007  08:08 PM ET

Good fit for Miami! Old and doesn't have a lot left in the tank so Miami fans have really no future to look forward to thanks Pat!

September 11, 2007  08:13 PM ET

OMG ... Y?

September 11, 2007  11:33 PM ET

Personally, I would rather have the 11th or 12th man on my bench be someone who is athletic enough to keep up with my regulars in practice for game preparation, not someone who might hit a three every 10th game or so.

September 12, 2007  09:49 AM ET

Ok 4 the last time KAPONO WASNT SH** AND DEFINITLY NOT WORTH 24 MIL!!!! The HEAT need a shooter and if houston can play 15-20min a game and still hit a shot he's worth it!!!!!!

September 12, 2007  12:00 PM ET

The way he killed the Knicks and ripped them off for all those millions, he should be banned from playing in the NBA again. Dude refuses to get surgery on those worn out knees, so we know they are going to bother him again immediately! DONT DO IT PAT!!!

September 12, 2007  01:28 PM ET

Olu Famutimi is better than Houston!

September 12, 2007  01:35 PM ET

MacaDamien: The problem is you won't get 15-20 minutes. He'll be hurt before the end of November. They'll spend half the season wainting for him to come "back". The best thing that Riley can do for him is send him the want ads.
