B's, now over cap technically, may get creative

07:58 AM ET 07.30 | Blake Wheeler's award may not have offered any clear loser in terms of value, but it may hurt the Bruins eventually. [The award] technically takes the B's over the $59.4 million salary cap, but they don't have to get under it until the start of the season. While the B's have explored the trade market, another option would be to send a player to the minors as they did two years ago with Peter Schaefer going to Providence to make room for Wheeler, who had surprisingly made the team as a rookie.

Soft player, especially for a guy his size.

July 30, 2010  11:27 AM ET

Ya, he fell into that extremely average category after his rookie season. Your right though at that size he better be doing one of two things scoring lots of goals and if not bangin bodies left, right and center.

$2.2 seems like a lot for him.

A Joe Thornton in the making?

Except he plays like Big Joe in the playoffs year round.

Of all the luck, the B's find themselves stuck with another Thornton. If Joe keeps this up, hockey fans will associate his name with underachieving forever. As in, "the guy had a good year going then he went all Thornton towards the end" or "scout report: Thornton-type player, plays well when it doesn't matter, disappears when it does."

So instead of being overpaid to play in the NHL they are going to overpay someone to play in the NHL. I should have practiced harder as a kid. LOL

July 30, 2010  02:37 PM ET

I mean overpay someone to play in the AHL.

He should know better. I'm really surprised that this dribble is still being thrown out there. Everyone knows that injured players don't count against the cap until they are cleared to play.

I do like him as a writer though.

A man on the move, for shore - got surf-king tatooed on his... mayhaps he still misses his cage - heard that he nicknamed it... Nick.

I'm almost certain however, that he would literally JUMP at the chance to go to TO-ON and rejoinder himself with Lil' Phil. Man his plus/minus tanked from +36 to -4 or something, after the Kessel-vessel sailed.
