Masoli would make Ole Miss, at least, a spoiler

08:25 AM ET 07.30 | Jeremiah Masoli's presence at Ole Miss, in football terms, could significantly impact the SEC West. The Ole Miss schedule is front loaded with four of the first five games at home and Tulane on the road. That should give Masoli a chance to learn the offense from starting quarterback Nathan Stanley and OC Dave Rader. Ole Miss then has an open date on Oct. 9 followed consecutive road games at Alabama and Arkansas. Then there is a home game with Auburn. Ole Miss is not going to win the SEC West but with Masoli, an All Pac-10 quarterback, the Rebels could beat somebody in the second half of the season that they were not supposed to beat and decide who DOES win the division.

Masoli transfered to Ole Miss?

I have nothing interesting to say about this article.

He'll be in jail before the season is over..............

What exactly did this kid do while at Oregon? I heard something about stealing.

So he does not have to sit out a year or is he playing this fall?Does he get one of those magic Old Miss scholarships?

He is a post graduate student so all he has to do is enroll in a course not offered by Oregon and 'wa-la' is he eligible to play one more season.

He pleaded guilty to stealing the Apple laptops earlier this year.
His story now is he got shafted by the press (and he did to some extent) and he did not steal anything.

IIRC he's taking grad courses in a major not offered by Oregon which means he can transfer without a wait. Something like that.

This.

was he not good enough to be drafted?

This is what's wrong with the NCAA. Masoli is a thief period. Next thing you know maybe Maurice Clarett will rejoin the Buckeyes.

Funny you should mention that. You ARE aware that Mr. Clarett has been re-admitted to Ohio State, and is currently taking classes, aren't you?

Oh yeah. Basically he's Cam Newton Lite.

So Masoli didn't paint his name on the stolen laptop, then?

Earlier this week the Mississippi admissions folks were saying he might not be accepted because the grad school application deadline was in April.
Apparently the Mississippi admissions folks don't know much about SEC football.

I'm sure they will get "educated" before fall practice starts.

I think being a Rebel is a perfect fit.

Hummm hope they lock up their laptops, who steals a laptop anymore for money? Guess if you know the person and their password, if he is smart enough to get around a password to sell a computer on craiglist you would think he would be smart enough to figure out better ways to make money or not get caught. He tops that off by lying to the coach about it (many feel that is why he got tossed, instead of missing half the season, etc).

For old miss who does not run the spread and will use him in a wildcat style offense it is a little stupid to risk the integrity of your program to "try" and catch alabama which you will not.

Oregon is better off he played a horrible game in boise (why they lost) and is not a great passer and the spread to trully humm it needs the quarterback to be able to pull up and complete a few to keep good defenses honest.

July 30, 2010  12:09 PM ET

He lied to the coach is what got him the boot not the pot (half of eugene smokes it) or the laptop pot induced theft.

Ole miss is trying to catch bama and this will not put them over the hump. He willl probably come off the bench and run a wild cat style offense since his throwing and passing reads are suspect. He pretty much lost oregon the boise game on poor passing decision, these performances are the main reason oregon was fine to let him go.

He is a good options runner and that may add a demension to Ole but not enogh to make enough noise to get in the top 5 hunt. What is the cost to your programs name taking bad seed cast offs in the media? Well heck just play up the "rebels" aspect and have fun be the raiders of college sports, why not after all no one really knows your program outside of the SEC and mississippi education needs all the help it can get!

July 30, 2010  12:10 PM ET

He had 1 1/2 good seasons...might be a Jevan Snead????? Depends on how good OM Oline and backfield are.....of course, Nutt is saying they are great...we'll see

<wink wink><nudge nudge>Where there is a really good player there is a way. Like I said yesterday, it's the SEC. If you aint cheatin' you aint winnin'.

Now, now. It isn't cheating for them to accept him-- it's their admissions standards, after all. The University of Mississippi is free to bend their rules as they see fit.
I just thought it was funny that they were acting like admissions deadlines might be a barrier to them getting a new starting QB.

Didn't they change their mascot to the hooded rangers or something?

July 30, 2010  12:37 PM ET

I said this locally on a public forum (gasp! I might be outted again about posting on 2 different sites!) - what are they goping to do? Have 10 plays they run all season? He doesn't have time to learn the playbook.

Maurice Clarett isn't rejoining the football team. He's just going back to the university of OSU. Masoli is a thief, but there are a lot of athletes that get in trouble with the law. It happens in the NBA, NFL, MLB, everywhere. I do agree that the NCAA should be more disciplined with their athletes.
