08:52 AM ET 07.31 | The Chicago Fire announced a trade with the Seattle Sounders for Freddie Ljungberg. Ljungberg, who last played on July 4, was also reportedly a late arrival for preseason training and was called out by Sounders coach Sigi Schmid for excessively criticizing referees. Frank Klopas, the Fire's technical director, said he wasn't concerned about the reports. "I don't know what took place in Seattle, but there are two sides to every story," Klopas said. "I know we're getting a quality player." The trade was the first involving a designated player in MLS history.

Lets all hope that Ljunberg can rediscover his better form in the Windy City.

I heard that his first course of action is growing his hair back out and dying it candy-apple red... is that his better form? ;-)

Rafa Marquez is officially a Red Bull. 5 years, 25 million.

Not bad for a 31 year old. I CAN'T WAIT to see if the Mexican-American population in NYC reacts... and damn - that's one badass team....

Yeah!!!! My boy Little Green Pea scored again last night...even though hew scored for the wrong side....

I know these games don't really matter....but, IMO, he is proving that he can handle the pressure....

& I know he has a lot of competition for his position.....But, hey, 2 games, 2 goals......

I think he can handle the pressure & will fare well up top with Rooney......

Then again, I don't know much about the sport....& still don't quite understand all the tactics & strategies.....

Thoughts?

Be NICE.........LOL

They probably will.....Marquez has a lot of fans....Especially FEMALE FANS....Mexican chicks are more into soccer than American broads.....I've noticed that A LOT lately....surprises the hell out of me.....I mean A LOT of Chicks follow el Tri......

Chicharito is young, Macheda is young... so there's 2 ways to look at this. With Michael Owen, Berbatov and Rooney you've got built in already a solid striking set, so you can either settle for limited playing time as depth, which would be positive getting exposure and time with that team - but then there's Macheda too who they kept on the team last year... OR, expect a loan like other young'ns Welbeck and Diouf...

I'm impressed by what he's done... scored the first goal at his old teams new stadium. And Fergie has been sending him praises. So I think they keep him on the team, and it's a 3-way fight off the bench, Owen, Hernandez, Macheda...

Isn't Macheda younger? Like 19? Chicharrito is 22, I believe...

The coach seems to like him....what's not to like about him? He's not arrogant or cocky like Blanco.....
Isn't a "typical" Mexican player....he doesn't like to fight! LOL.....

By next year, I HOPE the rotation is Rooney, Kiko, and Cheech up front.

Last night was the last time he ever dresses for a Mexican club. When he comes back to North America, its to MLS. New York or LA will bank on that smile all day.

Thank you Chicago. You gave Sounders a draft pick for a player who is probably leaving MLS in the winter.

If Klopas actually said what is stated above- then he is 100% on the hook if this trade doesn't work out well (and not just for what the Fire lost in a draft pick, but for the salary that was handed out that could have been used for another player, and to give away that 2nd DP spot).

Really?!? You don't know what happened with the guy while he was out in Seattle, and yet you still signed him?!?

Can you imagine if a GM in the NFL signed Terrel Owens and when asked about character issues and if it was ever a concern for the signing replies: "What character issues? I wasn't aware of what happened with this player when he was at his last few teams..."

Ljunberg was a bust, one and done in Seattle.

In the past 2 weeks, Charlie Davies, Sacha and now I'm hearing even SID **** FINCH has scored....

He won't be loaned out. According to the Mexican press and Chivas owner Vergara there is a clause in his contracts that states that he cannot be loaned out.

So he stays.

As for Ljungberg... not a bad guy to pair with Nery up top. Should provide good service to him.
