09:50 AM ET 07.31 | Bryce Brown is welcome to enroll at Kansas State or anywhere else he might choose. But the former Tennessee running back will have to pay his own way next season. Citing three main areas of evaluation, Vols Coach Derek Dooley confirmed late Friday night that Brown will not be released from his scholarship - and the fact his request was made in a text message appears to have little to do with the ultimate decision.

No worries ... he'll just get his agents, err I mean handlers to pick up the tab.

Don't you think FN could've included the three main areas cited above? Prior examples show that there isn't a strict character limit to these blurbs.

"As with the other players who have asked for a release, I went through the same process with the same criteria with Bryce," Dooley said. "These are the three key factors - what their personal investment into the program was, did they have their heart into it and did they give it a good, fair shot. No. 2, the harm that their departure creates for the organization. No. 3, how they handle it as a professional.
"I've done that with every one of these guys -- with Aaron (Douglas), with Todd Campbell, with Nick Stephens, Nick Lamaison and now Bryce. So now my decision based on those three factors with Bryce is not to release him."

Yeah, way too many characters, and, likely FN's editorial decision was that quoting Coach Dooley didn't add enough to the blurb.

I agree. This kid needs a father figure in his life, his own does not seem to be doing such a great job. You don't want to play here fine, get a free education on us.

"On the first day of Tennessee's 2010 spring practice, Brown announced his decision to leave the program. Volunteers' coach Derek Dooley said that Brown will remain enrolled at Tennessee for the rest of the spring semester but did not indicate if he would then transfer.(March 18 USAToday) His brother Arthur recently transferred from the University of Miami to Kansas State University, leading to speculation about Bryce following him."
How does a Coach have a player all through Spring practice, who said on Day One! he wants to leave, and then refuse a transfer because "his heart wasn't in it, didn't give it a fair shot, causes damage to the organization (like staying there wouldn't?), and whether he acts "professionally" (which happens to be the number one NCAA question on his first day as a freshman).
Dooley be a big boy. Let him go, and concentrate on winning or not being embarrassing with what you have left.

Be accurate. Bryce Brown did not request that in the spring, Arthur Brown made that request. Except via a reported text, Bryce Brown has never officially asked for any release.
Dooley acknowleged he met with Brown on Saturday but said he was not asked for a release.
Arthur Brown also said his son, one of the nation's top recruits entering last season, did not ask Dooley for a release at that meeting. This week Dooley said that the reason Bryce has not been released is because he "has not come to me, looked me in the eye and said, 'I want a release."
Bryce, be a Big Boy and do it the right way, not like some little girl twittering.
I doubt Dooley wants him near his football team. Just trying to do things the right way and maybe help teach the kid about growing up someday.

I agree with 50yearfan. It's a matter of principle. Some have good values, some value theirself above all else.

Vols rejoice. You've got yourselves a coach with integrity and guts. I like him. Good on ya, Coach Dooley.

This kid no doubt figures he will be one of those $50 million first round picks someday. Problem is, he thinks he can skip the process.
His father is nothing more than an enabler for him, and it shows in both of them. He is only hurting his chances of ever making it big. No NFL would go near him for big money unless he gets with a program and a coach that teaches him how to o about the business of life and football too.
Smells like Maurice C. to me. He better change and soon or get a real education. He will need it.

How was this for going to a school. Daddy to Kiffen last year:
" ' If Bryce decided he wanted to leave, would you release him?' And he said, 'Yes, I'd do that.'"
Dooley has some cleaning up to do, USC, get ready and bring your OREK.

Clarett there's a shooting star .Does anybody at spring practice point out to these kids that if the team's players are fortunate 3-4 from the team will attend training camp for a NFL team next season .Get an education take advantage of your athletic ability to advance your career cause it's 1in a 100 you sniff a tryout .Even if you beat the odds the average career will end in a players mid to late twenties that's an awful long time till social security kicks in
