Can Florida win without star power?

07:32 AM ET 08.02 | For the first time since 2007, Florida will open fall practice without a returning All-American. Familiar faces are gone. The All-Americans who once dotted the Gators' roster are now only footnotes in a media guide. The famous quarterback who commanded all of the attention is somewhere out west making underwear commercials. The University of Miami has its star quarterback Jacory Harris. Florida State has its main man, quarterback Christian Ponder. Florida has no one. No hype. No credentials. No bright lights. Where there was once a buzz, there now is only silence in Gainesville.

The fact that there are no bright lights should allow this team to grow into its own identity. Getting out from under the Tebow/Harvin/Spikes spotlight will be a good thing.

Will completely suck this year? No star power.

August 2, 2010  09:07 AM ET

Nope. Florida won't win anything any more. The glory days are over. Let's talk about the Alabama "dynasty".

John Brantley is garbage and is not even half the QB that Harris or Ponder are.

Who is Urban Meyer?

Yeah, I hear they've been running a textbook program over there.

Haven't you heard yet? The S. Carolina Gamecocks are going to win the SEC East this year. Revenge of Darth Visor... ;-)

August 2, 2010  09:22 AM ET

They might as well drain the Swamp. It sounds like we have no Gators left.

August 2, 2010  09:34 AM ET

ah the jealousy that rears its ugly head as bama builds back to dynasty level......its sweet:)

I think the Kentucky-Vandy game will decide the SEC East winner.

Why ya gotta bring up Alabama? This was obviously a hit piece from Miami.

True, but I like to deflect all attention to Alabama because they are so full of themselves already that all that extra attention goes straight to their heads. It just makes it that much sweeter when they fall.

Florida will do just fine I'm sure.

Bowl game if Urban is lucky, Gamecocks will win the East and go 12-0 to play Vandy in the SEC bowl in ATL. .....

Gamecocks and Vandy can't be int he SEC Championship game. They are both from the same division.

Maybe Gamecocks and Miss State.

Take a look at Florida's incoming class, as well as where they are so far for 2011. And take note of Meyer's record as a coach over the past half dozen years or so.Florida will win the SEC East this year, and next, and in 2012. They'll win the SEC two of those three years.OK, next thread?

I'm thinking there are more than a few teams in the SEC that won't agree with your prediction. BUT, I like it!

Florida fans haven't been full of themselfs for a decade? now your dynasty is crumbling, the first crack was alabama dismantling them last year. Now sit back and watch the dynasty crumble completely:) Good deal

I'm sure that is your prayer every night to the dark lord, Saban.

Florida will continue to be able to compete with the Crimson Tide for the SEC Title. There is simply too much talent at Florida for them not to be good.
