07:46 AM ET 08.03 | In addition to a few tweets out of Minneapolis predicting rock star status for Derek Boogaard in New York, the Boogey Man also has the blessing of former teammate Marian Gaborik. Perhaps the player Gaborik most eagerly anticipates seeing in a Rangers uniform is his longtime Minnesota Wild teammate and friend Derek Boogaard, one of the league's most feared enforcers ever since he joined Gaborik's Minnesota team in 2005. ... Gaborik said Boogaard opened up the ice for Minnesota's scorers by putting fear into his opponents. "I don't think anybody wants to mess around with him. He's the best at what he does," Gaborik said. "He was a help not just for me, but for everybody else on the team. I think Rangers fans will love him, and I think he's going [to] bring a lot. People, especially defensemen, won't want to play against him. When he gets going and he hits somebody, it's scary."

Crap... we finally get a Rangers thread and i'm going to be gone today!! What a bad signing, like i said yesterday, We have a guy named Dane Byers in the minors who i a really darn good fighter but he can still play a little bit of hockey and for less money. Notice he's not spraying Luongo in the picture. Great move Glen, great move.

You'll love cursing this guy, Joe, I can feel it.

And don't worry, we'll get other Rangers threads for you to contribute. With Sather, Torts, Avery and all the cast of characters they have, I don't have any doubts we'll hear from them often.

Then we'll get Rangers threads like, Lundqvist waists another season in New York as he put Vezina type numbers again, and worked his @s$ of all year just for a 10 seed in the East.

Yeah, you have to feel sorry for Lundqvist. He really deserves a better fate. One day, he'll become a free agent....

Yes, a real shame. As a Pens' fan, love to hate the Rangers, but I do love Lundqvist. Shame.

Thanks for the honosty. And as a Rangers fan, well i still hate the Pens! He's a really good goalie and a teammate. Just wish he had a team in front of him.

Yeah, he's a pretty loyal guy. He prolly won't request a trade. I do think we will be good in two or three years so hopefully he'll wait.

I'm sure he'll really intimidate people for the one or two shifts a period that he is out there. The Rangers need some better defensemen and not another thug.

Exactly it. I still have no clue why this guy was signed for 4 years, outside of that Sather wanted to show the rest of us that he still got it. It = terrible signings.
He will play 3 minutes a game, and if people go after Gaborik he will be watching from the pine. Then he will get on the ice finally and will do something stupid and Torts will have him in the dog house.

Very sad to see the boogieman go. He was a fan favorite to most but not all. Those that had a problem with him usually cited his zero offensive production and high cost against the cap. They are valid points but the value he brings is spelled out well by Gaborik. That being said, NYR paid too much. Getting someone like boogie should be for less than $1mm.

Good luck Boogie. Gonna miss you smashing faces at the X.

Lundquist = Luongo

His cap hit is absurd for a player that is not even going to dress every game, let alone be on the ice for more than a few minutes.

So right. It makes you shake your head to try and figure out what Sather is doing most of the time. I do feel sorry for Lundquist. But, not too sorry for the Garden denizens. It's too easy to hate the Rangers.

I hear Derek Boogaard has renounced violence, turned vegan and joined the Green Party of Canada like Georges Laraque did. I heard he grew a pony tail and wears a tunic and sandals (made out of recycled materials of course).

Well Joe, at least you beat the spammers to T&R. You'll have a nice day ... if you don't think about Sather ... or the Rangers.

Dude you know nothing about hockey then. To prove it you spelled his name wrong. Devils fans...

Thanks DCruiser.

Yes the Boogie Man was a fan favorite in Minnesota for years. However, he experienced a significant decline in ability over the past two years, probably mostly due to several back injuries, to where he became an impedement to the team rather than an important piece of a winning team. He would skate one to two shifts during the first and second period and be gone in the third due to his lack of mobility and ability to move the puck. Also due to his reputation, if he so much as sneezed at another player, he was penalized. That was too much of a risk for a coach to put him on the ice in a close game. If a team wants a goon/fighter these days, that player better be able to at least get a goal or two per year, or be able to move the puck. Sorry but Boogard's not that guy anymore.

Because I put a U instead of a V I know nothing about hockey. That makes complete logical sense.
I keep hearing from Ranger fans that this guy is top 2 or 3 in the league, how great he is. He is Vokoun, he is Luongo (mainly Florida days Luongo). He puts up good numbers on a bad team. He has a below .500 playoff record and not very good numbers in the playoffs. His best years were with Renney as the coach.
I'm not saying he isn't good, because clearly he is, but Ranger fans over-hype this guy.
