Miles questioned about Michigan interest

Guess what question popped up for LSU coach Les Miles during the Southeastern Conference coaches' media teleconference Wednesday? Have you considered that Michigan job, Coach? "To be honest, not at all," Miles said. "I've given very little thought to that. ... The only thing I'm doing is preparing to play and preparing a very talented football team to take on Middle Tennessee State." Some disgruntled Michigan fans didn't want to hear that. Miles is on the short list of critics plotting the post-Lloyd Carr era because of his resume: He's a former Wolverines player and assistant - better yet, he has LSU ranked No. 2.

Like other schools, Michigan has it's share of bonehead idiot fans. The season isn't lost YET and these morons are doing more harm to the school by trashing Lloyd and calling for his firing. LSU is ranked #2 right now. There are 10 more games to play. What if Miles loses a few? What then? Will these same idiots then be as eager to get Les? The best thing for UM fans to do is to shut up and let Lloyd do his job and try to get the Wolverines back on track to winning. Lloyd and the Wolverines just might surprise some people during Big 10 play by winning the conference (yeah, it's a long shot but still possible!).

September 13, 2007  09:09 AM ET

Miles is already in the almighty SEC, so wouldn't the Big 10 be beneath at this point? A big mouth won't help Michigan, a real football coach might. Too bad Pete Carroll is taken.

September 13, 2007  09:12 AM ET

wen to to UM ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ thats why there is interest.

September 13, 2007  09:33 AM ET

Word is that he is very faithful to his Michigan team. A comparison of this would be to that of Paul "Bear" Bryant when he was coaching at Texas A&M. He got the call from his old school (Alabama) and he didn't even hesitate about resigning from Texas A&M. I'm thinking if the call is made, it will be very interesting to see Les Miles's choice. If Michigan makes the call during the season, then they are very classless, not only because the season for LSU will not even be over but because they will not have given Coach Carr a chance to make a comeback.

September 13, 2007  09:34 AM ET

I say It's Hot ...... that is if Michigan makes the call ..... I know he has a great team at LSU right now .... and that will make it interesting

September 13, 2007  09:35 AM ET

He seems to be a good fit, however; it's quite funny that LSU hasn't been completely sold on Miles until beating a highly overranked Virgina Tech, and when rumors started swirling about him leaving for the UM job. Up until that point, the consensus out of the LSU fans seemed to be that he has been an underachiever. I thought it was funny that Stewart Mandel (in his recent Mailbag) brought up this same point. Pretty good read actually.

There's no doubt Miles can recruit (he has Louisiana locked down), and is obviously a pretty good coach. I'm not sure he has quite established himself in the upper tier yet. He's got a long schedule (although favorable from a Home/Away standpoint), and anything can happen (as stated by The Warden above). Let's talk about this 3-months from now........

September 13, 2007  11:13 AM ET

He is concerned about playing Middle Tenn. St., that is important. Get ready for the small schools. Unlike Carr who cannot get his team ready for the small schools, anyone remember Ball State game last year, they came real close to spoiling undefeated matchup M vs OSU game, real close. And we all know what's happened this year, ya Miles prepare for the small schools, Carr doesn't.
We'll see ya on the sidelines at the big house next year.

September 13, 2007  11:18 AM ET

"I've given very little thought to that," he says. Uh, Les, "very little" is a lot only two games into the season. For LSU fans, that's good news, 'cause it means he's extra motivated to win to ensure a nice fat offer from Michigan. On the downside, Tigers, it means you're likely to see another of your coaches run out of Baton Rouge as fast as he can. (Is it something in the water?) Maybe you'll get lucky and Charlie "Offensive Genius" Weis will land in your lap after leading Notre Dame to its first winless season...

September 13, 2007  11:40 AM ET

Why on earth would he do that? Unless the reasons number about 10 million. LSU will be a power in college football for the next ten years--better recruiting base, better conference, better everything except for the fight song. Michigan's season is done, unless you believe that the Outback Bowl is "not done." Henne out, Hart half-out, Carr should be out. This is a meltdown of epic proportions. Michigan fans, you may be learning what Alabama, Miami, and Washington learned--you can't be at the top forever. Welcome to the world of 8-3 and 7-4. Sorry, Bo.

September 13, 2007  11:49 AM ET

If Michigan offers him the job, then he'll be at Michigan next year. I have no doubt about that. The only question is whether Lloyd Carr is gone after this year and then if Michigan offers him the job.

September 13, 2007  11:50 AM ET

Hey The Warden...I'm apparently one of thos "idot fans" as you call us that want to see change at the U of M. I wouldn't care if Les lost half or all of the rest of his games or even if we get HIM as the coach Michigan needs change because what is there isn't getting the job done. When you say "get back on the track of winning" how far back are you going for that "winning" time? Carr hasn't beat OSU in 3 years straight, he hasn't won a bowl game in the last 4 and is only 1 out of his last 6 bowl games. So how far back are you going for that winning track? Two things, and being a U of M fan should know this...you can't beat OSU and you can't win a Bowl game you are NOT getting the job done. So for basically the last 3 - 4 years Carr isn't getting it done. You want to keep supporting that type of record and failure of the 2 most important things in U of M football history go right ahead and continue to call me an idiot but from where I'm standing I would have to question your intelligence in wanting to keep a coach that continues to lose and bring shame to the U of M football program.

FFS....will the media drop this garbage? Talk about this crap when the season is over.

September 13, 2007  12:47 PM ET

Let's hear one from a Michigan bonehead fan...Wake up and smell the losses. We've let Carr do his job, and that's why our program continues to be the laughingstock of college football. Blowout losses to Tennessee, USC, Oregon, Ohio State, Appalachian State, and can't beat any Pac-10 school. The UM blowout to Tennessee several seasons ago SHOULD have been a wake up call that we need more speed on defense. 7 years later, we still don't have speed on defense. Carr can't even recruit the best player in the state of Michigan, who chose USC of all schools, over Michigan. Why? How about all the suffering we had to go thru under the Jim Herman defensive coach? What did Carr EVER do about that? I made this same post several weeks ago, yet no Carr supporter offered one example: We've lost DOZENS of games where we lost because of sheer stupidity on behalf of Carr and his group of buffoons. Name ANY game during Carr's tenure whereas after we won you said "Thank God we had Carr as our coach in this game, otherwise we wouldn't have won". Please, any Carr supporter out there, name ANY game from ANY year.

September 13, 2007  12:52 PM ET

Fire Lloyd Carr...your next drink is also on me...well said...and if you find ANYONE that supports Carr at this point in time with the showing we've had over the last 4 years I will be shocked...unless it is the AD from Michigan. Apparently Carr has some compromising pictures or something on this guy to continue to receive the support he's getting from the AD's office.

Les Miles will pull a Nick Saban. You can bet your sweet **** on that.

Why would Miles leave L.S.U.? He is doing a good job with Saban's recruits, and he has brought in some good ones himself.

Got to go with The Warden on this one and say that this season is not lost. Let's get off Lloyd's back and let him finish this season. So what, Michigan won't win the National Championship? The Big Ten title is still atainable and so is a trip to Pasadena.
