07:40 AM ET 08.04 | Vikings fans may find out if Brett Favre prefers a more round salary figure. After texting teammates and team officials that he was ready to call it quits, the star player issued no official statements from his compound in Hattiesburg, Miss., leaving the media scurrying, as usual, for clues to his next step. According to NFL sources, the Vikings' pitch to bring back Favre now includes an offer that could pay him $20 million -- $16 million guaranteed, plus incentives potentially worth another $4 million. Favre was scheduled to make $13 million this season. Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe admitted Favre had "told a couple of guys on the team that he was going to retire," but the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald reported an unnamed person close to Favre's family said he hadn't made a decision whether to play a second season with the Vikings.

Wait a while, he'll change his mind at no cost to you, Vikings.

If there is one thing we know about Favre, its that you can't believe what he says. Until the season is over, he could change his mind and just show up.

I don't feel bad for the Vikes here - you make a deal with the Devil, you're gonna get burned.

Lmao, this guy is gonna come back in the playoffs, just to throw another interception to a safety.

August 4, 2010  07:52 AM ET

Like I said yesterday: the Vikes will wave another $3-4M under his nose and suddenly that ankle won't be so sore.

Maybe he's on his way to Arizona for his next stop on the "I the man" tour. Doing to the Vikes what he did to the Jets.

Brett Farve, what a joke. We kill Lebron who honored his contract and decided to play somewhere else in the off season but we glorify Brett. What a country!

What a way to run a team. I always heard that he was quick on his feet.

GO AWAY FAVRE!!!!!

August 4, 2010  08:28 AM ET

If Im not mistaken HE never announced ANYTHING it was some news paper reporter that "announced" he was retiring.....So maybe he is trying to break a story that never was a true story in the first place....Hell I doubt he needs or wants to go through training camp at his age anyways.....

August 4, 2010  08:29 AM ET

<sniff> Is this the very distinct smell of desperation?

Favre haters are so ridiculous. ESPN makes a national story over a couple text messages is just as ridiculous. He hasnt retired. ESPN looks so ridiculous over this story. Enjoy the run to the superbowl Brett, make em all eat crow:)
