07:54 AM ET 08.04 | The Orioles won in their new manager's debut, but the goodwill isn't keeping a local broadcaster from talking about his disappointment. MASN broadcaster Rick Dempsey, who came up empty this week in his fourth attempt to become the Orioles' manager, said he is disappointed he didn't get the job but is supportive of the decision to bring in Buck Showalter. "I'm very, very disappointed, to tell you the truth," said Dempsey, the longtime Orioles coach and player who was the 1983 World Series Most Valuable Player. "I don't begrudge Buck getting the opportunity. He is going to be a hell of a manager. He has been a hell of a manager. But I will always feel I know more about this ball club than anybody else."

That is because the world can see you are not the manager type. Move on

He's the only one that thinks he'd be a good manager...

Agreed but I will bet he cares about this team more than Buck or anyone else they could bring in to manage. Buck is def the right choice for the options available and I like what he did last night in the save situation

On the one hand I'm thinking "Careful what you wish for, boys" These guys are a sinking ship....... But they have SOME young talent, and could be a decent team in 3-4 years. As long as there's some gradual improvement each year, the guy that rights the ship in 3-4 years is going to have GM's offering him blank checks.

Is that the same Rick Dempsey that used to entertain the masses during rain delays by stuffing a pillow in his shirt and pretending to be Babe Ruth hitting a home run? Sliding across home plate on a rain soaked infield tarp?

Maybe the way Baltimore's been playing this year, a manager with a sense of humor might be a good thing.

How bad would he be?And when was the last time Baltimore had a winning season?

August 4, 2010  02:11 PM ET

Don't feel bad Rick. You're the lucky one. Anybody managing for the ambulance chaser is the loser...............not you.

Another bird flipped.

You want to be a MLB manager Rick?

How about having more than 3 years of minor league experience on your resume before complaining that hiring a guy who built 3 franchises into contenders over you is the "worst thing the organization has ever done".

August 5, 2010  05:51 PM ET

Buck is the best choice for the job. Maybe Rick will be named as a coach .

Buck Showalter has only been brought in to get the O's back on track and the pieces of the puzzle back in order--He never finishes anything he starts... Yankees, Rangers, D-Backs... After the Birds return to their winning ways; Then they'll bring in Rick Dempsey with Cal Ripkien advising. It'll be Great during Rain Delays seeing Manager Rick entertain the crowds again!!!
