Teammate: Wolverines may tune out Forcier

07:55 AM ET 08.04 | We've seen a number of Michigan headlines lately, but a report published Tuesday deserves mention, as senior cornerback Troy Woolfolk took aim at Tate Forcier, who, according to Woolfolk, is losing ground to a seemingly more commited Denard Robinson. According to Woolfolk, what was once a neck-and-neck race between Forcier and Robinson for the starting quarterback job has begun to tip in Robinson's favor. And a big reason for that, Woolfolk said, is the team's perception of players who don't show up to voluntary workouts. "I personally have a lack of respect for them," Woolfolk said. "The outlook on them is kind of diseased. Like you don't want to be hanging around those people because they have bad work ethic. But at the same time, it's my role to try to persuade them to come out more."

Wasn't it last season the Mich was getting looked at by the NCAA because of too many hours? So pretty bad when voluntary is viewed as mandatory.

Michigan isn't that good, both QB's will see the field because of that reason alone.

Voluntary have always been viewed as mandatory by the captains of the football team. Every team does this.

I'm sure this is the case with many teams, but it would be better to keep it lower profile, considering the heat that was there last season.

IF you want to win in the fall, you need the dedication of your players to be at the voluntary workouts in the summer. If you think you want to be a leader on your team, your tail better be working out with the team.

Tate started every game last year, so I find it hard to believe that he would not get the early nod this year...

Bring me the tSUN faithful! I want input from those with the courage to wear the maize and blue even in these times! What say you, Wolverines fans?

Maybe Tate realizes that he just doesn't fit in as well with RichRod's vision of the spread. Ot it could be that he's quietly being shunted aside in favor of Denard Robinson. Regardless, I smell panic in the program.

I think you're right on. Panic is rampant in Ann Arbor.

August 4, 2010  10:54 AM ET

RichieRod is WAY to arrogant to feel any panic. Like I said before, I am surprised that Little Man Tate didn't transfer. He has been in RR's doghouse because he is head-strong and free-wheels rather then stay with the play longer. The word I'm getting from Ann Arbor (one of my Vietnam buddies is a rabid UM fan) is a definite feeling that Robinson is the "man." He looked real good in the Spring, I'm told and has a strong arm. If it turns out that Robinson starts, it will be 3 years and 3 different QB's for RR. That is no way to build a program.

I have no problem acknowledging panic in Ann Arbor...and I have no problem with a Senior leader calling out an underclassmen who may not see the importance of player led summer workouts that all top programs/players engage in to achieve success. Keeping this inhouse is a better traditional solution but if a senior leader is making it clear that they are going to bring this team back to where it belongs then so be it since there is zero interest in seeing this turn into the long term downturns that programs like texas, penn state, nebraska, usc and most others have experienced at somepoint over the past 20 years.
