07:21 AM ET 08.06 | The Celtics have geared up for one more kick at the can. And in a blink, it will be over. With the way the roster and contracts are currently arranged, only three players ( Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, rookie Avery Bradley) will be under contract in the summer of 2012. That's when the rebuilding will begin in earnest.

Nope not for sale...

It's too soon to talk about the Cs rebuilding. When its time for them to do so, rest assured, it will be long and painful.

That's two seasons of keeping the Heat ringless. I'm down for it.

The Celtics still have some left in the tank. They won't be a pushover win for any team.
Good luck to them. They'll need it.

By the way...I've started a new drinking game at the bar. Everytime Paul Pierce hits the floor everyone has to do a shot. We should all be tanked by the tip off.

Damn - Too soon to get down on rebuilding for a team who for all intents and purposes can compete for the ship as is for at least 2-3 more years.

they always find a way

It will be rebuilding time...im sure they will lock up perk......and they will build around rondo....at this point...we still have 2 0r 3 more years in contention......so why put out this article now?

August 6, 2010  09:12 AM ET

Least worry about this year First ....not two years from now "The Summer of 2012"

August 6, 2010  09:16 AM ET

Rondo will be their steady guy, perk will be their No.1 defensive guy, and they should hold on to Big Baby.
PP can play minimum minutes and still be effective. They will need a big time signing, summer of 2012 is not looking like a big bonanza FA year, so most likely they will look for some trades.

2 or 3? That may be a bit optimistic. Allen is 35, Pierce is 32, and KG is 34. Add three years to those ages, take a moment and think about it.

Al Horford, David West, Nene, and Tayshaun Prince will all be either restricted or unrestricted free ageants next year. I would take any of these guys. I really like Horford. We need another shooter so if Troy Murphy is avaliable at the right price, I'll take him. Mo Williams we be an unrestricted free agent next year and he would be good coming off the bench in a Vinny Johnson role. They may be fun to watch but I think Shrek and Donkey need to go after this year.

All the guys you named will be a free agent next summer & the Celtics cant sign the big free agents until 2012 !

Out of those names probably only Al Horford would be worth it...Mo Williams will not backup Rondo when he can be a starter on other teams.
