09:54 AM ET 08.07 | Sprint Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin confirmed Friday he has cut down his activity on his Twitter account because of his recent run-in with NASCAR, which fined him for comments he made on the social media outlet which it deemed "materially damaging" to the sport.

I can face any challenge that I face today knowing that Denny was able to cut down the activity on Twitter. Way to go, Denny.

NASCAR is missing a chance to have more followers by clamping down on what drivers say.
Let the drivers have their say.
Good or bad.
It is a free country and lets at least pretend it is

When will they learn !! ....It is the same for ALL sports....somebody in the Front Office NBA / NFL / NAPCAR or in the Media is reading your tweets....so do not say the wrong thing cause it Will get back to You.

I also heard Hamlin is cutting back on sweets or maybe it was tweets...whatever ;)

I actually had a little more respect for Denny (and I didn't have much) for speaking (or tweeting) his mind. Don't stop now Ham-man. Give the boys in the trailer hell. We would love to hear it.

What the heck ever happened to freedom of speach? N.A.S.C.A.R., home of good old boy's, bible thumping and republican backing... better read the Constitution!.....I mean when your all done messing with your sister's and such.

Sly.. that would be Bill France Jr.. they're one in the same.. the way he looks at it

More than likely Sprint gives the drivers the phones to ''tweet''.. so I guess in a way Nascar can ''regulate'' what you can and cannot say on them..

NASCAR.. Not Any Scathing Comments About Racing

what a load of crap. 4 day old article updated by this? why bother.

I cant agree with everything NASCAR does, but most dogs learn not to poop where you sleep.

finish your sentence...nascar is gawwd....a gawdamm sport that is falling apart...good job brian france.

It certainly frustrating to have to watch what you say....venting is a good "release"....however, if I owned a company, I would not want my "employees" bashing the company that pays them and pays them well.

pondscum hit the nail on the head with #12.

Why is everyone amaze that NAPCAR fines it Drivers for comments that Put Down the Sport....

NBA does it to owner Mark Cuban, and players for making comments on the officials.

NFL does the same thing, to Chinco, T.O. & others players, the best one last year $250,000 fine to Bud Adams owner of the Tennessee Titans for give the finger to Buffalo fans.

So let me get this straight - Edwards can kill Brad K and it's just a "racing incident", but Hamlin tweets something Baby Boy France doesn't like and he's punished?

Good to see France and Helton taking care of what really matters.

August 7, 2010  10:42 PM ET

Agree that you can't pick on the boss. He might not be right but he is the boss.

August 8, 2010  07:02 AM ET

Oh Denny. You pottymouth.

i didn;t read any Poor Brad K in that posting. looked to me as though the comparisons of the crime and the penalty were discussed. Edwards got away with a grevious offense with hardly a handslap, and badmouthing the boss is dealt with harshly.

Denny got burned for having the "audacity" to put in print what the fans have been saying and already knew. Funny how Brian France is so ignorant and pompous that he doesn't see the sport imploding because of his inability and lack of talent to lead.

Im listening Denny, continue tweeting...
