08:30 AM ET 08.08 | The Heat will not only be great, but historically great. So predicts the co-lead NBA analyst for ABC/ESPN. "They will break the single-season win record [of 72]," Jeff Van Gundy said. "And I think they have a legit shot at the Lakers' 33-game [winning] streak [in 1971-72], as well. And only the Lakers have even a remote shot at beating them in a playoff series. They will never lose two games in a row this year."

nice to think that but even as a Heat fan i dont see that happening i dont see us winning over 70 games this yr

They can win as many games as they want, but it is the playoff where it matters

Yup....That being said......I think they will be BETTER come playoff time as they will have had a whole season to gel.

Quite possibly. I live in Miami and it's funny to be talking about the Heat over the Dolphins. I am very curious about the Heat team and have to wonder just how good they can be.

As far as Van Gundy's quote goes, I don't put any emphasis on anything until we actually see this team play.

This wins prize for 'Funniest FN Article of the Week'. His Kool-Aid was particularly strong. Of course he has a vested interest in reviving sagging interest in the NBA, but alas Miami's so-called "Big Three" pale in comparison to Magic-Bird, so it just won't work, Jeff.

Good point, but, if they don't win it ALL (NBA title,), then the "three", will go down in history, as just real good players!

Too much hype, Bro.

August 8, 2010  10:37 AM ET

better then 72 and 10 really? With a team that has Wade and Bosh, two guys who have NEVER played all 82 games in a season before... The NBA isn't what it was in the 90's in terms of talented teams but I still don't see 72 plus wins.

August 8, 2010  10:38 AM ET

I doubt that. They will be so dominant that they will start losing interest in quite a few games. They probably won't win that many games, but they sure as heck will win the title. Did you guys see that Lebron took a laughing stock to the finals by himself and Wade winning it with decent, but not great help? Put them together, add a top 5 PF in Bosh - multiple titles. It's that simple.

August 8, 2010  10:53 AM ET

Not this year, but I can see this happening in 2-3 years when they become used to eachothers play and style.

This will not be the 1st time it "could have" happened. Those records still stand because
they are a lot harder to break than most people think. This team is not nearly as solid as the 71-72 Lakers. I don't even consider 33 in a row to be a possibility. I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

August 8, 2010  10:57 AM ET

I doubt they'll win 72 games! #1 72 is a grind #2 nobody on that team wants to win on the level that Michael Jordan wanted to win...Nobody. #3 Bosh is still the "Rupaul of big men" Phil, Jordan Pippen and Rodman with Kukoc off the bench scared teams. Spo', D-wade- Lebron, Bosh, and Juwan howard doesn't exactly have me shaking in my boots!!!!

not really, Wade hasn't made it out of the first round in four years, and James has gone out in the second round the last two. While I expect that to change I'm not sold on Miami until I see them play. All three Bosh, James Wade have been to this point ball dominators, Wade and James are always NBA top 5 in turnovers and how good is Chris Bosh really? I see his stats last year but ever time I saw the guy play live I was always disappointed. I agree with ESPN's story posted two days ago which puts both Bosh and James as the most overrated players at there respective spots SF and PF... So for me it's wait and see, sure Miami could be very good...or there lack of a center and a real big man will come to haunt them along with the fact that Wade and Bosh have never played a hole season due to injury. At 29 that shouldn't improve.

It's amazing what player collusion can accomplish.

QUOTE(#19):

Even if they win all 82 games but they lose in the playoffs then they would be nothing but a Cavs team that had the best regular season and disappeared in the playoffs... I like all these hype about the Heat because now they have so much to prove and so much to back up. Don't forget that Lechoke promised 8 rings in 6 years... Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7....

that will be hard when there won't even be a 2011-2012 NBA season in all likely hood
