Aging A-Rod a concern for Yankees

09:16 AM ET 08.08 | The combination of age (35) and injury, minus any performance-enhancing drugs, would appear to be working against Alex Rodriguez -- and, if so, that is ominous news for the Yankees, who will be paying him an average of $27.5 million per season through 2017 hoping to cash in when he becomes baseball's all-time home run king. Meanwhile, what has to be of bigger concern to Brian Cashman is how many more games A-Rod has at third base. How soon does the hip condition dictate his becoming a full-time designated hitter?

Funny, you didn't think it was a problem when you signed him originally with that huge contract. What's the matter, you didn't think he'd age and break down??

Don't **** about it now Cashman, you did this.

The guy is having a "****" year and he's on pace for 26/134. He's five off the RBI lead. Come talk to me when he becomes Freddie Patek. I'm not saying he's going to regain 40 hr form every year, but I wish the Mets had 'washed up' guys driving in 130 a year.

Wow, there's a blast from the past.

One can only hope this helps to handcuff the stankies for many years. Jeter's no younger either. Won't stop them from spendig like the print it , but 27M for 1 guy is a lot even for them.

What a shame. I weep for the poor Yankees

An awful contract. Why do these GM's get away with costing their club's millions and be tauted **** "great" general manager's? Once A-Rod opted-out of his contract and took the Rangers off the hook from paying a significant portion, the Yanks should have just let him walk. Cashmen should be fired. Anyone can throw money and sign players. You have to be smart, though, and choose guys without giving dumb contracts that will pay someone over $27MILL through their early 40's.

Too stupid to spell "Yankees" huh?

The thing is that the Yankees didn't have to give him such a big, long contract. As usual. they bid against themselves. Who else was going to give him that kind of money...or even close? You could of offered him Tex's contract ( 8 years, $180 million) and that's being generous. You don't want to be paying a guy almost $30 million when he is 40 years old. I would rather have two $15 million younger guys for the same money. Doesn't make any sense. If they give Jeter a 4 year $100 million contract, that will be equally senseless

This is exactly why every player wants to hire Scott Boras as an agent.

A-Rod has at least 3 more good years at 3rd and an additional 2 more as a DH! He's gonna help the Yankees way more than he will hurt them!

Degenerative hips don't get better, only worse over time. Just ask Mike Lowell.

You must be new here. You're not allowed to say anything good about Arod. He is the most evil, detestable, dispicable human being to ever play the game. Ty Cobb (the racist spikes sharpener), Ted Williams (an intolerable ****), Bob Gibson (an admitted head-hunter)...real men all. Heroes of the game. A-rod? A self-centered, cheating ****! The Damian to Jeter's Christ act.

So get with the program, noob. If you want to post about A-rod you have to mention how he invented steroids and how he forced poor Tom Hicks to give him a lot of money and then snookered poor Brian Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner into more money using his Svengali-like powers. You have to be like the rest of the hypocritical losers and yell "HE CHEATED!!!!!" every time his name is mentioned.

Wow...are you sleeping with the guy or what? Just a tad dramatic, don't you think?

August 8, 2010  03:20 PM ET

I was talking about this with my boy the other day. I'd be surprised if he hits another 200 HRs

Not dramatic...parodic. The dramatic ones are the chorus of butthurt "HE CHEATED!!!" criers as if every person to play the game before and since has been of the utmost purity.

And besides, we have 50 guys on here calling him names and badmouthing him. We can't have one guy (and I admit to being him) who truly likes the player and supports him without being accused of sleeping with him. Badmouthing=okay! Supporting=manfag! Okay, whatever.
