Bowman defends Blackhawks plan

Bowman isn't bragging.

If Scotty's little shotty isn't bragging I guess it's just another one of those "perceptions."

Was he part of the screw up last year that caused the problems this year? I think he came in right after the whole mess went down.

Blame Dale Tallon for doing all this before Bowman took over. Bowman is right, he managed the hell out of this salary cap problem. There was no doubt that the bonuses that Toews and Kane received this year screwed us over big time (Toews being winning the conn smythe and kane finishing in the top TEN in scoring which totaled to over 4 million against the cap) You HAD to sign guys like Kane, Toews, and Keith....and they were gong to get large extensions, and if it werent for Keiths 13 year deal and Hossas 13 year deal, we wouldnt have either right now, now for all those panicking...remember...Seabrook is up for a hefty raise too ya know....I would like to see how they pull THAT one off at the end of the season...I dont see any way you could do it..and THAT would be a HUUUUUGE loss.

Agreed! He's a bit arrogant, in saying" We exploited it in a way!", and a huge ego won't do him any good, as he's riding his fathers coat tails! Hawks fans are happy with the Cup, as I'm sure I'd be too, but I don't think that they are fond of the idea that it might not happen again for a long time, but then again who knows.

Tallon did most of this, but it seems for the purpose of one and done. No offense, but this team wasn't built to be repeat champs, as half the team that won is gone, and no one knows how good the chemistry will be with the new guys. The only thing he didn't totally mess up, was in net. Signing Turco, was one of the best moves he could have made for the price, even though I do feel bad for Niemi, as I don't think it fair that a rookie should have to take a hit like that, after winning the Cup. Yes there has been bonuses, but there have been bonuses for years, so those #'s should be expected, and factored in even when barely possible. imo

They've signed 5 minor league players within the past few weeks to fill out their roster. I don't know if they can get it done next season.

Wait Toews and Kane signed these contracts after Tallon was fired Tallon assembled this team not that arrogant little puke .Now he made a couple mistakes Campbell & Huet the 2 most glaring .The third was having Stanley as his cap-ologist I still wonder what happened late last June when the RFA contracts had to be sent out .I remember reading back before then that Stanley was in charge of the cap .Tallon and Dudley were in charge of the talent and scouting .Did Stanley take a page out of daddy's playbook ?!?!

Officially, he'd like everyone to believe he had nothing to do with the screw ups. Unofficially, he was up to his eyeballs in it. He and McDoughnut put all kinds of preasure on Talon behind the scenes "to make it happen and make it happen now. Whatever it takes." Talon did and, when the Hawks took off and started to look like champions, they quickly fired Talon's arse. Took all the credit for the success but, they'll be damned if they ever take any of the blame. The whole thing stinks.

You've nailed it down pretty good, Swampy. I was going to say , "Apples don't fall far from the tree." But, in this case .... "**** doesn't fall far from the horses arse" seems more appropiate.

I agree totally with you on this! It's always up for debate, with the whole"New" NHL, as compared to the "Old" NHL, and in this day and age, it seems that the last season or possibly two, the mindset changed from dynasty, to "GET IT NOW! WHO CARES ABOUT THE REST!", and because of that the Hawks, who could have done some things differently, and "chose" not to, now have to deal with the consequences, but they got a Cup, and I guess that's what matters most........until they don't get close again for years, and then this will all be debated once again!
