07:11 AM ET 08.09 | Another Tennessee defensive lineman is headed to the training room. Sophomore defensive tackle Marlon Walls became the second expected starter up front to suffer a likely season-ending Achilles injury on Saturday, joining senior defensive end Ben Martin, who went down with the same injury on Thursday.

When it rains....

Sounds like Dooley needs to stretch those kids out before practice...

August 9, 2010  07:49 AM ET

Oh yeah, it's Kiffin's fault...

August 9, 2010  08:10 AM ET

Dang, two same injuries that are not all that common. Need to fix that problem, pronto!

MAN! At this point I almost say that each SEC team chip in a good player or two to help TN out. This is getting ridiculous. I hope the TN faithful have some patience and realize the S#!T hole that Dooley has walked into.

I think I read this was one of the guys in the bar fight a few weeks back. He was finally allowed to practice with the team then SNAP. Ouch.

Agreed. I just hope Vol Nation has patience, it is going to be a long season. I do believe though, that Dooley will do a fine job if given the chance. This is not the normal rebuilding most programs go through.

Couldn't agree more. But we'll be back soon enough.

Was he really their BEST receiver?

Yipes... Things will settle out and the Vols will rebuild soon.I would think that the Vols would have plenty of scholarships open to fill up with recruits this year, I would guess they could probably recruit 30+ for Feb 2011. Any Vol fan know the numbers on this?

Just as a note, the SEC now limits each team to 28 scholarships per year (thank you 'Bama & Ole Miss) so even if they are far below the 85 limit, they can't sign more than 28**.
**Recruiting nerd note - you can actually still sign more than 28 but it involves enrolling the kids in the spring semester (graduating high school early) which then counts their scholarship to the previous year (assuming you have less than 28 for the previous year, which I assume Tenn does)

Bowden called Jimbo and told him to reinstate the kid and just have him run stadium steps.

Maybe not #1, but I believe he was top three.

August 9, 2010  11:26 AM ET

The limit of 28/year is a new SEC rule starting last year.

He was at Bar Knoxville that night, although the extend of his involvement in the brawl never was clear. Funny thing about barroom brawls...
