07:37 AM ET 08.09 | Red Bull Racing has emerged as the likely place for Kasey Kahne in the 2011 Sprint Cup season, the Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com have learned. Under a proposed arrangement, Kahne would drive one of Red Bull Racing's Toyota's next season as he waits to take over Hendrick's number 5 Chevrolet in 2012, sources close to the situation confirmed Sunday.

Bye Bye Scott Speed! Thats two racing disciplines he's just not good enough to drive in. But it is a smart move on Red Bull's part to hire Kasey even if for one season. And if he's successful for Red Bull, it'll be interesting to see how much money the owner of Red Bull would be willing to dish out to try and keep him, especially with the success Red Bull is experiencing this year in F1 and other racing disciplines worldwide. In fact, their poorest showing is probably in NASCAR.

I have trouble faulting Scott Speed for his failure in F-1, only because Toro Rosso is such a badly run team. They have one win but it was in the rain.
Unfortunately there's no reason he should be this bad in Cup, except for the fact he just can't drive the car. He runs well in the ARCA and Nationwide cars, but that doesn't really help him much on the Cup side. There's not guarantee that Red Bull will just flat out dump him though, because he shares such a great relationship with Dietrich Mateschitz(sp?). I could see Red Bull moving him to Grand-Am or IndyCar.
As for Kahne, there's no guarantee that Red Bull will be a Toyota team next season. I keep hearing they may switch to Chevy.

First the rumor was Martin going to Red Bull, so Kahne could drive the #5, now it's Kahne to Red Bull.
Since Kahne sign in April to drive for HMS in 2012, we had...the #09 Phoenix Team, Stewart-Haas 3rd car, JR Motorsport moving up to CUP, Martin leaving the #5, even Kahne staying a Petty for one more year. did I forgot any...
Do not push Speed out the door at Red Bull to fast....we do not IF Vickers will be cleared to drive next year or not, last I heard was Doctors still trying to figure out, Why Vickers got the clots in the first place and could it happen again.

I remember hearing a while back that Red Bull wasn't real happy with the TRD engines, and TRD engines haven't really won that many races either. They won with Vickers at Michigan last year and Reutimann at Chicago this year. Joe Gibbs doesn't use TRD engines, they build their own as far as I know even though they have a great relationship with Toyota.
Jay Fry also has a very close relationship with Rick Hendrick.

Speaking of driver changes, I think Marcos Ambrose to the #9 Ford may be a lock. From what I hear Ford really wants him back in their fold, as they were one of his sponsors when he was winning all those V8 Supercar races in Australia.

All the rumors of new drivers at Red Bull lead me more to believe that they are not confident Vickers will return. Scott Speed was looking much better this season prior to his crew chief that I think was completely unnecessary due to the fact that Casey Mears only stayed for 2 weeks. I just do not see Kahne fitting the marketing plan over at Red Bull either. They go for young guys with a PERSONALITY, and from what I have seen that ain't Kahne. A guy like Marcos Ambrose would actually be a better fit if you wanted to bring in someone new at Red Bull.

You bring up a couple of interesting points. I agree that Kahne doesn't really fit the bill for what Red Bull looks for. I also forgot about Red Bull pulling Jimmy Elledge away from Scott Speed in one of the dumbest moves ever. Elledge did great with Allmendinger, and was doing pretty good with Speed too.
