Revis, Jets tens of millions apart

07:51 AM ET 08.11 | A report out of New York has the Jets and Darrelle Revis "a staggering $40 million" apart. Revis has been looking to surpass Oakland's Nnamdi Asomugha as the highest-paid cornerback. Over the next two seasons, Asomugha will average $16.5 million. So do the math on a 10-year deal. That brings the number Revis wants in the $160 million range. Guaranteed money? Probably about $30 million. "The proposal I gave to the Jets on Friday reflected the fact Darrelle Revis wants to be a Jet for life," agent Neil Schwartz said Tuesday. ... "The Jets have never given us a proposal with one dollar in signing bonus or one dollar in fully guaranteed money," Schwartz said. "I don't care what they say."

Gotta love a guy wanting a signing bonus when he's already under contract.

We kind of already figured that out, he wants Asomugha money, but eventually he's going to have to realize that he and the Jets won't get anywhere unless he shows up.

He's also going to realize that the other 31 teams in the league don't have a crazy corpse running them skewing the market.

Right, as long as the Cryptkeeper is still alive the system will continue to be broken.

He'll be back then. Has to be unless he wants to lose a full season of service in the league.

If they would be reasonable they could work it out. Revis needs to understand that he has 3 years left on his contract, so he does not have the leverage of a free agent signing a deal with a team run by an insance, vampire like owner. The Jets need to understand that expecting the best corner in the league to risk a career ending injury for 1 million dollars is not going to happen. His contract is backloaded over the next three years. If they just agreed to front load it perhaps they could keep the money close to the same (knowing that they would renegotiate with one year left so that dollar amount is meaningless anyway) and work something out. I think Revis has unrealistic expectations and Woody Johnson, who inherited every dime he has, thinks he is some sort of tough guy. I also think that the owners are colluding not to artifically increase salaries in this uncapped year.
If you are a Jets fan, and I clearly am, you are not surpised by this. My guess is that Revis does not play one down this year. The Jets will be a somewhat better than average team, who will either just miss the playoffs or bow out early. I will then repeatedly bang my head against a wall.

Asomugha is good; but smarter heads need to consider the insane turkey vulture who forked out that kinda $$ for a shut down corner...
