07:59 AM ET 08.11 | Edged from the lineup by a 21-year-old rookie, Jeff Francoeur has told the Mets he'd like to be traded to greener pastures -- i.e., where he could play. "We want to play every day," Francoeur's agent Molly Fletcher said yesterday. "We prefer to play in New York. But if we're not going to play every day in New York, we absolutely welcome the opportunity to play every day somewhere else." The Mets are aware of Francoeur's position, a team official indicated. Eligible for arbitration, Francoeur is a candidate to be non-tendered by the team and cut loose at season's end. He is playing on a one-year, $5 million contract. With Fernando Martinez called up to play ahead of him this past weekend, the writing is on the wall.

Francouer has had chances to start and play in two places... He needs to put up number swhne he has the chances... Bravos were right in getting rid of him...

Go to Japan, Jeff... They'll love pronouncing your name there, "Flancouel, Flancouel"...

This guy has been given all the chance in the world to play everyday with both ATL and the NYM and all he has done is shown how inconsistent he is. He had (maybe still has) the potential to be a good hitter, he just needs to be way, way more consistent.

Francoeur can be frustrating at the plate, but he seems to get all the negativity of the press and fans. Let's remember Mr. Met, David Wright is currently in a 2-26 slump - a .069 average. I understand the press has made Francoeur it's whipping boy, but be fair; Wright has stunk, Beltran is still getting his legs back, and FMart wasn't even the best player in the Mets farm system. I am one of the few that will miss Francoeur. His batting stats would be inconsequential if others on the team were doing their job. He does need better plate discipline, but look how many runs he has prevented with his shotgun arm.

i'd admit the guy is a stud in RF. but they need a bat and a run producer from a corner OF spot plain and simple. it'd be different if he was a CF and covered a ton of ground but he's not. he's been given the opportunity as mentioned. you are right on the money his plate discipline is horrible....he needs to see more pitches and work counts to his advantage. I don't know which team he thinks he can start for and remain there before that team does the same thing - give a rook a shot

He makes only $5 million for this year? I don't know how he can live on that. I know I couldn't. Have to eat day old bread and government cheese. Maybe he'll get traded to the "other New York team" and they can pay him $50 million bucks for those sizzling numbers he puts up.

He can play everyday in the minors...

I must have missed seeing Molly Fletcher play for the Mets. What was her B.A.?

The line of players wishing to exit the Mets is miles long Jeff, take a seat and they will call your number

When does Omar Minaya have to start answering for all of these team issues??

Bingo!
This is all his fault going back 3-4 years. it all started when he didn't pick up a reliever before the trade deadline and let Heilman and Shoenweis lead that first collapse.
He has compounded that eversince by not making some obvious moves that the Mets needed.

I just don't know why he seems to get a pass everytime there's an issue with Mets personnel. He's been responsible for some of the most headscratching moves in MLB the last few years, yet there's not a lot of blame put on him. Instead we have to hear rumors every 2-3 months that Minaya is considering firing people. Seems to me, a lot of these issues are his fault.

He's a nice guy, and I love having him on the team.. up until he actually plays. I wondered why the Braves were so desperate to get rid of him and was thrilled when he was traded to the Mets. He played well last year, but he is so frustrating to watch. Hopefully the Mets can get something for him, and both sides will be happy. (Not including the team he will be going to)

They are his fault, as well as the Wilpons. It starts at the top. I blame them more than Omar.

Francouer has well 4000 plate appearances and his production has clearly been less than overwhelming. He strikes out too much and gets on base too little, and his lackluster offensive
numbers do not justify starting as a corner outfielder for a major league team, at least not a successful one. Perhaps he would have value assuming a platoon position with another team- with a reduced salary.
It seems that Francouer has coasted a bit on the strength of a good, albeit abbreviated, rookie season and the fact that he LOOKS like a great ballplayer. Francouer reminds of the wayward but beautiful vixen who manages to convince a string of suitors that he will be the one to make her happy.

atlanta got Farnsworthless...Ha!
I saw he screwed the pooch recently...he is going to do that on a regular basis, better not play him...

They really do not hold him accountable, but the baseball moves, some really obvious needs that do not get filled...those are his fault.
