Sanctions pinch more than roster at USC

08:19 AM ET 08.11 | With its roster reduced to 70 scholarship players, USC players aren't working as hard. The days of agonizingly long, full-pad double-day workouts are apparently over. The limited number of players -- 15 under the allowable maximum -- and the risk of injuries that could deplete it further convinced coach Lane Kiffin to change the format of two-a-day practices during training camp. Instead of two full-contact workouts, the Trojans on Tuesday went through a two-hour morning practice without pads and then returned eight hours later for a full-pads practice. ... "It just wouldn't be smart to do it the other way," Kiffin said. "It may make you feel better because we think we're getting tougher but we've got to have enough bodies to play."

Got a love that photo, it seems to say, 'Its not fair! Daddy, why is everyone always picking on me'?!

Program saddled with prior misdeeds + Coach who's been begging for trouble = Karmageddon.

Looks like Lane's about to cry in that photo. It's a shame, really. What's next? Ping pong for hand-eye coordination?

Practicing in that brutal 78 degree heat must be exhausting. The Pacific breezes don't help either.

Actually made me laugh out loud. Almost spilled my drink on the keyboard. AWSOME!

I thought he looked like the last kid waiting to get picked for a team on the playground.

Kent Turene, the 6'3," 230 pound linebacker from Lauderdale Lakes, FL., who surprised everyone by giving the Trojans a verbal commitment a couple of weeks ago, apparently is wavering on his pledge to USC.For Trojan fans, it is not so much disconcerting that Turene is waffling, it is who Turene is now looking at to possibly replace the Trojans as his next destination to play ball.Ummm....that would be crosstown rival UCLA.???I have interest in UCLA,??? Turene told Rivals.com last week. ???I???m still solid to USC, I???m just looking around looking at other schools."Turene went on, ???UCLA looks like they are having a great program and will become one of the next powerhouses in the country. They are trying to become great. I don???t know much about UCLA, but I have been doing my research.???Turene, regarded as one of the best prep linebackers in the country, fits a position of real need for the Trojans, so this news that Turene is considering the hated Bruins serves as a "double" crisis of sorts for USC.

Way to stay on it Piratey, lets keep the pressure on those Trogan fans, all the way up til their final demise this Nov 27th @ the Coliseum.
After that UCLA can have the sloppy seconds. OH !

After reading the headline and seeing the pic. I assumed the sanctions were pinching something.

People always say that the wes coast has dry heat and is soooo much nicer than the south but give me humidity. I was out in Vegas and I was baking. I was out in Universal City, California and I was baking. I have visited or lived in in New Orleans, LA; Miami,FL; Auburn, AL; Richmond, VA; Tallahasse, FL and it is brutal in the summer but I didn't think I was cooking. I never played football in the west coast so I don't have a reference on the football field but I'm used to the humidity.

My experience was the Vegas sun from May to Oct is like planet Mercury's sun, but 99 degrees in the shade ain't bad in the Nevada desert. The problem is its 110 out 24-7 for most of that time.

Summers in Florida, you need an oxygen mask and a sharp machete to cut through the air.
But the desert Southwest has nothing on the beauty of the deep South. IMO.

But who we kidding, Carmel California is the place to be.

Oh Pirate, pirate, pirate. Sometimes you are such a cute little fella.

Let's ask Randall Carroll or Morrell Presley about how things are turning out for them shall we??? Both committed to us, and both changed to westwood. Well let's see, this being Rick's 3rd season (not to mention Norm's) I would imagine the bruins have made some serious headway in the country right??? But as I check every publication known to man, hmmmm, I don't see the bruins getting any Top 25 votes, not even in the "also receiving votes" category.

Ok, no biggie there, they must be near the top of the Pac then right??? Oh wow, as I check that one out, I see the coaches and media who follow the Pac say the bruins are..... oh wow 8th this coming year??? Welllllllll ok. Looks like all the hype about Ricky boy bringing the bruins back isn't exactly working out as planned. To bad.

So you see my young domer friend, don't get to excited on everything you read. Especially when it comes to our program losing commits, or taking on water. When Turene does his research, if he is smart, he will end up here. Westwood??? LOL. Enjoy the home games, seeing as it's the only time he will actually be playing in the Rose Bowl.

how about we just let the teams play and see what happens instead of treating preseason predictions as gospel...bet no media "expert" predicted u$c would LOSE 4 league games last season, bet no one predicted stanford would hang 55 on them or oregon would run up 47...
