Can new Twins GM re-sign stars?

Twins players and coaches Friday buzzed with talk about the unexpected resignation of longtime General Manger Terry Ryan. A lot of the buzzing came from manager Ron Gardenhire, who wasn't kept in the loop about Ryan's decision to step down after 13 years and suddenly must build a working relationship with new GM Bill Smith. Torii Hunter and other players -- namely staff ace Johan Santana -- will now have to negotiate with Smith as the club prepares for a critical offseason. Smith already has relationships with most agents, just not a long history of negotiating complicated deals.

The A's and twins develop so much talent but because of their market can't keep them. Oh well maybe they might get lucky and Hunter and Santana wiilstay for less. Yeah right!!! They got families to feed.

Actually, our Billionaire owner has more billions than your Billionaire owner. New York and Boston just happen to be a larger TV markets and each garner more revenue from those outlets than the Twins. That being said, it is a certainty that Santana or Hunter won't be playing for the Red Sox or the Yankees. In fact, there is a greater chance that they would take less to play for the Twins than more from the Yankees or Red Sox, but they won't have to do that either because there are a number of teams not named the Yankees and Red Sox who would pay more than the Twins for either Hunter or Santana. Hunter has some nice stats this year, but is declining defensively, and those offensive stats aren't likely to continue after this year especially in Boston or New York. Santana will extend with the Twins, forsure. New stadium on the way, and along with that nice luxury tax revenue the Twins get from the Yankees and Red Sox, we can sign Hunter too. Why? Because our Billionaire owner likes him and he was Pohlad's wifes favorite player. Look for a personal services contract of a couple of years added to his 3-4 year player contract for $60-$65 million. Hunter will want to stay in the Twins organization after he retires in 3-4 years. The Yankees and Red Sox will enjoy getting raked by Santana, Mauer and Morneau over the next few years.

They'll both be playing for the Rangers by this time next year,

Wow, cheesy. You're a freakin racist. It's a shame someone like you even draws a breath on this earth. Wake up stupid...

I hope the Twins can, but I doubt it, not with bigger pay roll teams out there

If you root for the underdogs like I do this is a sad story. Here are the twins rebuilding from within and they just can't keep up with the big teams like the Yankees and Mets. Half of the Twins roster today will be playing in New York by this time 2 years from now. and Minnesota will once again rule the basement for their division.

WHT TORI HUNTER WOULD BE A GREAT AQUSITION FOR THA METS GET RID OF ALOU AND BE GOOD FOR YANKS TOO JOHNNY DAMON IS NOT GOING TO GET THA JOB DONE

I RATHER HAVE HUNTER OVER JONES JUST THINKING

The Twins are currently short at least 2 bats (DH and 3rd). This is assuming you give credit to Kubel from his second half marginal increase in production as an indication that he will play in left next year. Losing Hunter would mean that they would be down 3 bats (not to mention a great center fielder and team leader). If they can't resign Hunter, look out bottom of the AL central, here comes the Twins in a hurry.

As crazy as it sounds it may be easier to lose Santana. There is pitching in the Twins farm system (fingers crossed for Lariano's return) and Santana will command far more than Hunter will and far more than the Twins can afford (even at a discount). I'd love to sign him for a long term deal, but would rather see $20-28 million/year spent on 2-3 possition players.

Adios Johan.

Hunter is actually very well spoken. But it doesn't matter who the GM is because they only have a 70 mil payroll that the owners won't let them go over.
