Komisarek on the mend and happy to be pre-camping

08:37 AM ET 08.11 | Mike Komisarek couldn't have been happier to skate again. As Toronto players began informal workouts in Etobicoke, the 28-year-old was having as much fun as teenage rookie Nazem Kadri and second-year Leaf Tyler Bozak, as he greeted teammates, trainers, rink workers and even the media as long-lost friends, raising his arms in an exaggerated celebration of each goal. Of course, Komisarek couldn't even wave his right hand without pain a few months ago, recovering from February surgery on a torn labrum and other shoulder issues. "You can only take so much time off before you start going crazy," Komisarek said. "You love being on the ice, you love being in the locker room with your teammates." Though he had begun skating near his Long Island home in recent weeks, Tuesday was the payoff for Komisarek, who went under the knife before the Olympics so he'd be ready in plenty of time for camp early in September. "Get rehab done. ... Having the surgery in February, you're able to get back on the ice earlier and get your strength and rehab done," Komisarek said.

I wonder what he'd look like with a playoff beard? Sadly we'll never know.

Didn't he make the playoffs with Montreal?

Of course he did. But when Leaf bashing we don't let facts get in the way. :-)

I'm in awe. And, I'm looking forward to more!

Maple Leaf players are having fun? How did that happen?

August 11, 2010  12:27 PM ET

Leaf Bashing... One day soon this will end. I see a playoff beard this upcoming spring. Komy will be a different player this year then the injured one we saw last year

When you have absolutely no hope of making the playoffs you have to find something positive to say.

Agree....except for the "soon" part.

But he was swept by Boston. Never made it deep enough.

Yes we will!

He has to settle down this season and not try to play like Bobby Orr. He is a player who plays best when keeping the game simple.

Another burn, and how is the thumb today? It must be sore from flicking that Bic for all the burning you've been doing! lol

You are as loyal, as they come Argos! I respect that, and hope they do make the playoffs, and if not finish in a place to take a decent player, or not give one up(as I'm getting confused by the picks that are in others pockets).

Lucic will knock the whiskers clear off Komisareks' playoff aspirations yet again.

Leafs are always nice and fresh in the summer but come autumn they take on a different hue and don't look so good once they hit the ice.

Lucic, you mean the highest paid goon ever?

Oh come on argo, you would like this 2 way goon palyin' on your team. A healthy Lucic can pot 25 and dance with any heavyweight.

At $4 million, I would never want him.

His career high in goals is 17, and his career high in points was 42. However, he got those from doing nothing but being on a line with Kessel and Savard. Any goon could have had those stats.

His other season he scored 8 goals and had 27 points in 77 games. Last season he had 9 goals in 50 games with 20 points, and was a -7, second worse among forwards on Boston! Some two way player. Even if he played 82 games, he was only on pace for 15 goals.

Lucic is just a goon that gets lots of minutes and is probably one of the five most overpaid players in hockey. He is worth at most, $1.5 million, not much more.
