07:54 AM ET 08.12 | Linebacker Shawne Merriman may or may not be ready to sign a contract with the San Diego Chargers. Two reports, citing sources close to the team and around the NFL, reported that the linebacker would be in camp in the next few days. However, on Merriman's Twitter page, the following tweet appeared: "All reports of me reporting to camp this weekend would come from the team 'San Diego Chargers' not 'sources.'" Merriman has been absent from the first part of training camp, seeking a lucrative contract.

I agree 100000%. Seriously, this guy is a punk. And to think a few years ago I liked him and respected him as a player. Thank God we picked Ware instead.

I agree wth the Roid's Remarck is is what made him "Lights Out" but he is still a quick, rangy an hardhittin LB for a 3-4 System, the should keep him or ship him out for a 4th Rd Pc or a Player, the guy SAN DIEGO HAS TO RE-SIGN an pay Mr. MARCUS MCNEIL who is what the 3rd Best LT in the NFL, i'd say Top-5 Easily.
Wthout him on the team an VJ gone for 4 Gmes at WR its going to put alot more Pressure on a Good but not as Great of Offensive Line 's Past an Rookie RB RYAN MATHEWS who'll Grind it out is a Northern Cali Boy frm Fresno St. Yeah wth Sproles they'll make things happen but its going to be harder an Phillip Rivers wthout Jackson or his LT.
When SD Starts off Slow they at least have a goo Reason. Give MCNEIL his big Contract, Re-Sign an DO NOT Trade Vincent Jackson get him a Long Term Deal at the End of the Season.
But Marcus McNeil is the Main Guy i'd want in Camp Right Now.

the Lights have Dimmed a Bit for Merriman or "Lights Out" I should say but he's still a Effective,Rangy & Hard Hitting Player who has the System Dwn Cold an a Guy the Charger's need to play Great this Yr, he'd be Graet in a 3-4 Ravens or even the Bronco's New System wth Dumervil Gone. But unlike in the NFC EAST an my Eagles Trading A HOF eventual Inductee in QB D.McNabb the AFC West doesn't like Trading within the Division.
The 1 PLAYER THAT MATTERS MST to SD is MARCUS MCNEIL, he's easily a TOP 3-5 OT wtout him Guarding Rivers an helping Rook RB Mathews my Northern Cali Boy & Sproles it will be much tougher going Early but as least the Charger's have an Excuse. Vincent Jackson being Susp for the 1st 4 also hurt alot but if the Charger's are Smart GIVE MCNEIL A MEGGA DEAL AN HAVE YOUR BOOKEND LT FOR 5-6 Yr's of ProBowl Play & Dont Trade or get rid of VIINCENT JACKSON, the Charger's wont get Equal Value at all, give him an Extension 4Yr's-$60 Million wth $20+ Guarenteed.

The Charger's have to add some Playmaking DE's an a Great NT in the Next Draft, also the Safety Spot but Key to keeping the Window Open is Bth Lines & Finding a Great WR to Team wth Jackson, a Guy like FLOYD frm ND whose Big can Get up there for the Ball would make a Great Tandem.
AN I ALSO LIKE CHAD JOHNSON wth T.O. Palmer, Benson who's Solid an UnderRated & their New TE Gresham who's Great for Palmer even though I hate OU an he did Miss All Yr wth a Torn ACL but has had 15+ Monthes to ReCover, it'd be nice seeing Cinci Repeat as Division Champ's whoch was Friggin Great last Yr, Pitt easy Early Baltimore is the Challenge, we'll C if the make it Bck-Bck P.O.'s for the 1st Time.

You could change his name to Brett Favre. because it sounds a little like that. Maybe he also hates training camp. ...on top of wanting more money that is.

The longer the San Diego trio is out, the easier they get for the Raiders. Does San Diego not realize that those 3 guys are probably 3 of their top 6 players? Without McNeill and Jackson, I question how another of those top-6 in Rivers will fare. Bad enough they lost jamal williams and cromartie (overrated but pretty decent). Now they lose McNeill, Jackson, and Merriman.
Seems that San Diego "window" just turned into a barred window.

This is a guy who has been suspended for nearly a season due to steriods and he's holding out? Did the team get a full refund on the year he was suspended? I am so sick of these player's holding out over greed, it's a new one every other day. At this point, despite owning NFL season tickets, I almost say **** 'em and let the owners lock them out, they won't find contracts like that outside of football so don't push it fella's, your greed is incomprehensible at the moment players.

Is this not the same guy who missed whole season a year ago as he got
hurt, but tried to play against Panthers (wh o won on last play touchdown)
so he may not be healed so Chargers are right not to give in until he proves
he still has it.

This is exactly why players like Revis and Chris Johnson hold out. Despite the fact that fans know how teams operate; they still get irritated at the players.
