08:40 AM ET 08.13 | JoePa insists he's not yet sure who will line up under center -- sophomore Kevin Newsome, redshirt sophomore Matt McGloin, or true freshmen Paul Jones and Robert Bolden. "To be named the Pennsylvania State University quarterback, that'd be great," a smiling Newsome said Thursday during media day at the stadium. "In a perfect world, I would be very excited, I would be very happy. But I want to deserve it, I want to earn it, I want to work hard for it. The other quarterbacks are working hard. The whole team is working hard. And the best quarterback will be chosen by coach Joe." You remember coach Joe -- 83-year-old veteran quarterback evaluator Joe Paterno, who tells anyone who will listen that he has no idea who will run out with the first team against Youngstown State.

Good point. He's probably still trying to decide what to have for lunch at Luby's.

I'm glad I hadn't started drinking yet. I laughed pretty loud when I read this.

JoePa just gives 'em the goggle-eye, says something good natured, and leaves them wondering. I think he's got the media sussed.

Maybe quarterback by committee? This could go on all season, with doddering JoePa mixing up names and numbers."Matt! Errr...Robert! Errr...Kevin! Errr...Paul! Somebody! GET OUT THERE AND TAKE THE SNAP!!!"

Now this is funny, sounds like my Dad calling one of his many sons out, Ha ha..

Funny we laugh and make fun of a college football caoch who is 83 yrs old and that he needs to give it up but we continue to vote life time politicans who are over 80 and running our counrty. Get a life.

August 13, 2010  03:08 PM ET

The guy is 83 years old doing what he loves and doing it the right way, he has done more for PSU and college football than most will ever do. It's funny to hear people say he's to old, he needs to go but half you probably are the ones voting in career politcans who are well other 70-80 and running are country............give me a break, he's a college football coach. Get a life.

You do realize there was only one poster who said JoePa needed to quit (and he has been ridiculed greatly since). Everything else is good natured ribbing about his age. Relax a little.

I have never once said he needs to go and defend him when others say the same. His record speaks for itself (because he cant' given his advanced age) but that doesn't mean I won't joke about his age. I am pretty sure he knows he's old.

ou'll right you didn't, refering to pass comments. I deserve it. My apologies.
