09:36 AM ET 08.14 | Even though Karl Malone gave away his jacket, he's feeling all warm and fuzzy. Malone, a Hall of Fame inductee, gave his sports coat with the Hall of Fame logo to a young boy in a wheelchair on Friday. "I told him when he graduates from high school he will have a jacket to wear," Malone said. The jacket, after all, was too short and tight for the 6-foot-9 former Utah Jazz and Laker power forward. Malone joked that perhaps it was meant for fellow inductee Scottie Pippen.

Wow, that's some serious humility.

Karl Malone, a class act all the way.

Why can't more professional athletes be more like him?

He should have gave the boy his championship ring.......oh wait

Definitely a classy thing to do. But a class act? He fathered 3 kids out of wedlock. Doesn't even speak to one of those kids,a son in LA, who was a good basketball player. Only reason he spoke to Cheyl Ford is because of public pressure because of her WNBA status. He also made crude remarks to Kobe's wife. I loved watching the mailman play, but classy is not the word I would use to describe him. It's time we take these athletes for what they are...athletes. They are not heroes or people kids should look up to. And in fairness to the athlete, they didn't ask to be put on a pedastool. It's a shame grown **** men slurp their kool aid.

well said, karl malone... ringless but a champion until the very end. Thanks for the memories mailman, you deserved HOF and you never let fame and fortune change the person you were, kudos to a great man, a great role model, and one of the best PF to ever play the game and let's hope he has a nice retirement.

I agree to an extent, but Karl Malone's humility and self sacrifice at his own HOF induction speaks alot of the charecter of the man.

Very nice by a class act.
Are you listening 3 stooges in Miami on how it's done?

Wait what?!

This is the same guy who was repeatedly voted the "Dirtiest Player" in the NBA...

Knees and Elbows to anyone around him EVERY game...

So giving a kid in a Wheelchair a jacket that is too small for you is how we define class nowadays... Then I must be the classiest person on the planet with all my old clothes that I have given away.

I'll continue to look at a person's complete "body of work" before adorning him with such an honor.

August 14, 2010  11:44 AM ET

I'd rather have the "Dirtiest Player" in the NBA that wants to win then someone that gives up in regular season and playoffs like 2 of 3 stooges in Miami.

Malone has many qualities and many imperfections. I guess like any human being. But call him a class act all the way is not right.
I for one liked his combative spirit when he played for the Lakers and he was for sure a beast when played for Utah.

Now that is funny, a Knicks fan calling Malone dirty......

Karl da main man...mail man. Great gesture no doubt. He played VERY hard, but stepped away from and gimmicks or media attention that many others crave.
Like many of you have already pointed out, no one has a perfect life. His act was spontaneous, don't think anyone could have rehearsed that!! Shows what really his heart is about.
I hope he goes out and does more for the community.

On the other hand, don't hold your breath to hear anything about community service from his fellow-inductee.

Good one Karl, worthy of being a Hall of Famer..

August 14, 2010  03:59 PM ET

That was a very nice gesture. Maybe he's mellowed....

I have been reading "To The Brink: Stockton Malone And The Utah Jazzs Climb To The Edge Of Glory" the past few weeks. He seems like a decent guy to me. Not perfect but who is..
