Sloppy week led to UCLA upset

It's not as if the UCLA football team couldn't see this coming if it believed in the practice-how-you-play theory. Utah's 44-6 rout Saturday can be attributed to an intense Utes effort -- though there was some listlessness by the Bruins involved. During practice leading up to the game, UCLA receivers were dropping footballs as if they'd been dipped in butter, Ben Olson looked like the star of a Quarterbacks Throwing Wild tape, and special-teams workouts brought drill-sergeant-like barking from assistant coaches. "It showed out there today," defensive end Bruce Davis said of the Bruins' week of practice. "That's my fault, as a leader on this team. I should have addressed the problem in a different or better way. It was more like, 'Hey, let's get it together.' "Maybe we should have been raising voices, calling guys out."

Actually I think that blue and gold jersey is hot. I wear that with my Melo's and I'm hittin'.

I guess the East Coast "bias" bull---- goes outta the window.. First Cincin-nasty destroys Oregon State and now UCLA gets blasted. Let's see - Stanford sucks, Washington State isn't terrible but they aren't good either, Washington is decent but not a top 25 caliber team and Arizona would get smashed by probably half of the Div 1 AA teams.

Other than USC, Oregon and Cal, I don't see any real threats in the Pac-10. I don't see how they were being considered as possibly being the best conference in College football. I'm not even a fan of the SEC but LSU should be ranked #1.

Amen Pac 10 overrated as usual. Meanwhile a middle tier SEC team beats the Big Easts best in Louisville.

the bruins will bounce back

Living in LA and and a supporter of PAC 10, I must admit that I am ashamed of UCLA. With Dorrell, they have always underacheived and that is such a shame. They have the nice weather, the financial recources, the facility, the publicity, the exposure and a shot at some of the best recruits and still all you get is mediocrity. Sad.

When I saw this score come across the tube....I had to rub my eyes. I mean...at least Michigan got beat by a field goal, UCLA got carried behind the wood shed and got their sacks spanked.

The Pac 10 was rated because of its showings the first two weeks. Nobody can argue with the fact that USC is, well, awesome: they are clearly the nation's No. 1 team - at the moment. CAL and OREGON are also good teams - at the moment. UCLA and WASHINGTON "seemed" to be better than they turned out to be. (Don't forget that OSU went into Seattle as dogs.) The bad performances of these two was unforeseen. However, look for the Huskies to get better - very good QB there - and UCLA probably to get worse. (That said, UCLA is always able to bring off one stunner and they always challenge USC.) George would say, with OSU's tremendous showing against a fair WASH team in its own house and the power of WISC and PENN STATE demonstrated - againts patsy teams, mind you - the PAC 10 and BIG 10 are nearly comparable - at this point in time.

Way to go, Runnin' Utes!!!!

September 17, 2007  04:09 PM ET

I was actually happy to see Tommy Grady was the QB for the Utes. I read a couple of stories saying that he regretted leaving Oklahoma especially after what happened to Bomar. At least now he is playing and playing effectively.

George Watson - If that's what "George would say", then that George is a smart man.. lol

Gotta agree as a THE OSU junkie and Big Ten follower, I do see the two conferences mirroring each other but USC is the wild card that lifts the Pac-10 one tier beyond and Northwestern (they need to drop this school, even Notre Dame would be an upgrade) will always cancel out Stanford.

I do disagree with USC being the clear #1, I feel that LSU is the better team. With Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas and Alabama on the schedule, it's going to be a rough road to an undefeated season. I feel that LSU is the only team in the nation that could pull it off.
