Veteran slugger Matt Stairs has put talks on a contract extension with the Blue Jays on hold until after the season, in part to avoid distractions but also to better assess his potential role in 2008.

WHO??MATT STARIS WHO THA HECK IS HE??? THIS GUY IS GARBAGE

September 16, 2007  05:48 PM ET

in all truth, he's a great guy in the clubhouse, and he has produced a great deal considering his role on the team and the number of opportunities he had. I know he's no star, but the Jays would be a better team if they kept him on - and of course, he's a fan favourite up here because he's Canadian

Ask Stairs if he wants to take the window or the stairs...

September 17, 2007  08:26 AM ET

Stairs MUST be resigned....MUST..Keep Canadians in Canadia!

now i dont know how much of a help he will be for the bluejays to beat the yankees and the soxs, but dont get me wrong he is a good player and i think he is handlin' this situation properly.

Next season 40 YEARS OLD! Thanks for the great year but what are the chances that he can repeat those numbers?

September 18, 2007  11:39 AM ET

I think he must be insane....

He's 39 and let's face it, a guy who has spent his career mostly on the bubble with a wide group of teams.

Now he has one that wants to sign him up for next year and he wants to wait.....

Hey Matt? It's the Jays or some kind of sales job in the insurance or automotive field next year......

September 20, 2007  08:32 AM ET

Stairs goal of playing for every major-league team is clearly a reasonable one...SLUGGER, you know, that FanNation has pegged him as.
Love the plowhorse comment...
