10:27 AM ET 08.14 | Nationals President Stan Kasten jokes that he is braced for the "Kentucky Derby process" that is the signing deadline, which is midnight Monday. Negotiations with top pick Bryce Harper, a power-hitting outfielder, are likely to not intensify until the deadline looms, as they did last season with No. 1 choice Stephen Strasburg, who agreed to terms with 77 seconds left.

Hopefully the Nationals and Bryce Harper can come an agreement before the deadline. Hate to see Washington loose out on signing a To Be Great Player like Harper. If Scott Boras, Bryce Harper and the Nationals can't get it done... Harper ends up going into the draft next year and could loose a few millions dollars off that contract . The Washington Nationals future would look pretty good with both Stephen Strasburg and Harper in their organization.

They'll get it done. They can use Stras as a measuring stick- Tore up AA and AAA and ascended to the Majors in less than half a season. For $15 Million total. Harper's not getting more than that.

as long as Bryce doesn't have the same "tightness" problem that Strasberg seems too after playing just a couple of games.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Harper is a catcher, not an outfielder as the article implies

They might put him at corner infielder to bring him up faster. I say let the kid develop. The Nats got 2 Franchise players in Stras and Harp. Don't mess them up.

they need to sign harper for whatever he wants, look at how much money strasburg costs them and then look at his production
harper will be a very good- if not great, player whether it be in the outfield or not and will be worth the money they have to pay
harper + strasburg = fantastic building pieces

They traded for ramos so harper could become a power hitting outfielder. They'll get the deal done at harper's price...

The guy hasn't played an inning yet and I think it's ridiculous that these guys are getting "HUGH" contracts-how many 1st rounders in baseball actually pan out?. Also, there were reports that he wanted to stay in school another year.
