08:01 AM ET 08.16 | Has San Diego already found its LT replacement in Ryan Mathews, who ran for 50 yards on nine carries? What Mathews did in his first game taking over for an icon could not be overstated, even in an exhibition. Mathews tried to keep his mind off his unofficial debut all day, then vomited in the locker room shortly before the game. "Nerves," he said afterward ... Mathews sent out a message via Twitter last week that stated he is not replacing LaDainian Tomlinson. That said, Mathews in his first night in lightning bolts did a good job showing he might be able to do just that.

That's why they drafted him.

Watched a little of their game last night - this kid has something.

Oh - and the Bears suck. That was obvious also.

Since you're an astute observer of the game, I'm sure you didn't have to watch the game to figure that out. Mornin', Otis.

It's going to be hard replacing L.T, but considering the pieces around him, it's possible.

considering the GM they have, it's also not plausible... That O line is missing a big piece come real time

Morning DD...

I may have to reassess my AFC West rankings. Bolts looked very, very good. Either that or the Bears are abysmal.

Its good to see them start making some progress.

Both could be true. I can't see SD finishing anywhere but on top of the AFC West. The Raiders will be much improved, but they're not a playoff team this year. And I don't think the Broncs or the Chiefs will challange anyone but each other.

Maybe duh Bears finish below Detroit? I'd laugh.

I am hoping that you are right and Chargers finish first this year. Next year, barring Al Davis putting his hands in, that the Raiders could fight for first.

If there is a running back that can replace LT; Ryan Mathews when it is all said and done just may end up passing most if not all of Tomlinson records. Mathews had an outstand three years running the ball at Fresno State, against the same WAC competition LT did during his days at TCU; And his 1,808 yards rushing ranks behind only LaDainian Tomlinson and George Jones on the WAC's career rushing list... Great move by the Chargers in drafting Ryan Mathews-- Sure some of the NFL Teams wished they had a solid running back like Mathews in their backfield this year.

Trains leaving. get your butts in camp.

Nice to see Mathews take on Lance Briggs man-to-man, break the tackle, and head upfield for an 18 yard gain. I remember LT running around people, but I do not recall seeing him break a tackle from somebody as good as Lance Briggs. Looks like a good draft pick so far.

That was an impressive run. The kid is going to make the SD scouts look good before all is said and done.

Here's hoping that the Chiefs surprise some people this year. 8-8 isn't a completely laughable thought. But definitely not enough to win the division.

This kid has the goods and yes, the Bears do suck.
