10:58 AM ET 08.16 | Things aren't looking good for Dale Earnhardt Jr. NASCAR's most popular driver's 19-place finish at Michigan has nearly dashed his hopes for making the Chase this year. It would mark the third time in four years that Junior misses out on a shot at the championship. "I don't give a [expletive]," Earnhardt Jr. said after the race. "I just want to go home. I busted my [expletive] all day long." Earnhardt Jr. had struggled for much of the race, with crew chief Lance McGrew not quite sure what went wrong."We changed everything and got it sort of drivable," he said. "But then it was just too tight. It was still a little loose in and then it was too tight off for him to make up positions."

Perhaps if Jr, of whom I am a fan, would get his head into his driving instead of his commercials, he might be able to do something!

Good morning all

I AM a junior fan, but not a fanatic. That said, I don't see this as a relevant article today. other peoples days put a big dent in their chance at the chase. Martin, Newman.

Nascar is obviously suffering big time, ratings down, empty seats all over every race.

They need to go back and start cheating again so this guy can at least compete, his troubles have hurt the show tremendously.

Like the announcer saying, "Junior goes a lap down, Wait! Yellow is out, debris in turn 3"???? aw, that will never happen, will it?

A true test would be to swap crew chiefs. Chad Knaus to the 88, Lance to the 48. If JR can't win with Knaus all fingers would point at JR not being able to drive anymore.

True dat, but it will never happen.

I like Junior, but rooting for him is like rooting for the Pirates. Half way into the season both of them are all but mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Great idea, Redsox, I hadn't thought of that. They mixed up Martin's and Junior's teams, or equipment, or something after last year and it has only hurt. As much as Chad annoys me (A LOT), he knows how to win. Give him to Junior and see what happens.

Let's face it. he's only and average driver at best. Stop trying to make NASCAR revolve around him. There are some good drivers in the chase that should be gettineg the press. Write about them and leave this alone.

As far as guys living off poppa's name go, he's better than Kyle Petty ever was but that says very little.

Have you ever been to a race in person? At least 50% of the fans are cheering for him, add Jeff Gordon fans and your talking 80% of the crowd.

It would be a much more interesting sport if the fans did "Stop trying to make NASCAR revolve around him."

Good luck with that.

What happens to Nascar when Jeff and Jr. retire? Will there even be a Nascar? Not like either one needs anymore money.

"average" drivers dont have 2 nationwide championships, 23 nationwide wins, and 18 cup wins.. average drivers are lucky to have 2 cup wins..

its all good Float, JerK brings nothing but jr bashing to this place, and i'll call him on his bs every single time.. hes way worse than the other guy who comes trolling once in a while.. i think deep down hes a huge dale jr fan, there is no other reason to continually bring his name up in the articles that have absolutely NOTHING to do with dale jr.. i also get a laugh at him running to the mods anytime someone puts the heat on.. not surprising.. he is what i thought he is, and thats a female dog.
