Senators eye Leafs free agent

While the Maple Leafs make their pre-season debut in Edmonton tomorrow, Jeff O'Neill sits and waits. Could the free-agent sniper, who spent the past two seasons with Toronto, be headed to the Ottawa Senators? O'Neill's agent, Ian Pulver, told Sun Media yesterday that discussions have been held with Senators general manager Bryan Murray. The Sens are looking for a goal-scoring winger to complement Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley and reportedly wanted to meet face-to-face with O'Neill, 31. But the King City native is said to still be mulling over his future.

he was HORRID with the Leafs. He, for all accounts, looked uninterested and out of shape for his entire tenure in Toronto (but we'll forgive him his first season, after the sad, sad, passing of his brother). Last season, he looked over-weight, slow, and tired. What would make Ottawa think that would change? Unless he comes in at the league minimum - or awfully close to - I would pass on this guy. I'm not a huge Anson Carter fan, but I would look at Carter before O'Neill right now, every day of the week.

Mulling over his future? What's there to mull over? Right now he has no future. If the Sens are interested, he'd be dumb to turn them down! (DC)

"A goal-scoring wing..." Jeff O'Neill has only scored over 30 goals three times in his 11 year career. He hasn't done in it 4years/3seasons. 14, 19, 20 goals respectively over the past 3 seasons. He has limited playoff experience as well. If Murray is actively going after him to play with Heatley & Spezza, the Sens might want to bring back Muckler.

DCruiser you have a good point with O'Neil , he just looks so dis-interested and annoyed by hockey , the next step for him would be to leave while he can with whats left of his reputation and whats left of his dignity . . . . nuff said

give this guy the Jason Allison treatment - not retired, but not employed

Guy is a dud, never scored a big goal with the Leafs, would score 2 goals in a 6-1 win, or in a 5-3 loss.
If he can get a contract from Ottawa good for him, I wouldn't waste my money though

Jeff O'Neill is NOT a sniper.

You talking about team mate Dany Heatly the Murder - the one who killed his Atlanta Thrasher team mate in drunk driving. Never served a day in jail but can still earn a living - and his team mate is dead. I bet other inmates wonder how they never got the chance to get on with their life as if it never happen.
