07:45 AM ET 08.18 | Tony Dungy isn't a fan of Rex Ryan's language, and Ryan's dad had a few words of his own for Dungy. Rex Ryan has drawn criticism for his use of profanity in last week's premiere of HBO's "Hard Knocks," the second episode of which airs tonight. Asked about Dungy's idea that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should tell Rex to tone it down, Buddy replied, "It's none of Dungy's business. The commissioner can do anything he wants to and I think he'll take the appropriate action," Buddy said. ... "I read in the paper that his mother said he needed his mouth washed out with soap, so I thought that covered it pretty good," Buddy said.

Let's just say that Rex and Tony have different philosophies when it comes to coaching and leave it at that.

Dungy wouldn't hire a DC who cusses as much as Rex. That explains the Colts' D sucking throughout his tenure.

Is this best T&R can do? Please! I'd rather have a Favre story. I know...careful what you wish for. ayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

Tony Dungy may be Don Quixote, tilting against windmills in the utter futility of restoring a more civil and polite world. I must give him credit for putting up the good fight.

Rex would wash his own mouth out with soap, he really would, but by the time he finishes washing his big butt there's no soap left.

Reverand, er I mean Coach Dungy needs to shut the eff up...just keep doing that bang-up job you're doing "rehabbing" Michael Vick.

dungy is trying to be a jesse jackson or an al sharp....keep your mouth shut

Or... watch HBO!

Is Buddy divorced from Rex's mother? Otherwise, would he have to read the papers to know what she thinks?

August 18, 2010  08:27 AM ET

This is stupid. Is the first time it's come to light that NFL players and coaches use profane language? OH NO! What ever will we do?

I agree 100%. Why does Dungy have to say that, though? Who gives a crap! So Rex is different, it's not Dungy's position to say what "HE THINKS" is right or wrong about Rex's style. I just wish Dungy was on the sideline so Rex could have punched him out kind of like his old man! Dungy needs to stick what he does best, and it SURLY isn't commentating.

But don't you all just love that pic of Rex. Should make everyone feel so good about themselves. LOL!!!

Certainly makes me feel better about that tub of lard I see in the mirror every day!

hire the ryan family verbal bang bang gang....

August 18, 2010  08:51 AM ET

Let's make Tony accountable for his Double Standard. He's ready to crucify Rex for use of language. Yet he readily forgives and supports Vick and others for their despicable behavior. Tony, let's see some consistency on the compassion thing.

August 18, 2010  08:59 AM ET

Dungy opposes premarrital sex because it's a gateway drug to dancing.

August 18, 2010  09:06 AM ET

Wow, no one on here has pointed out (article's author included) that Tony Dungy was asked about this. Dan Patrick asked for his opinion and Tony gave it. Tony did not go out of his way to "call out" Ryan or anything.
