Wigginton, Scott will stay put

08:00 AM ET 08.18 | It appears as if the newly respectable Orioles won't be moving any big names. The Orioles are virtually finished running their 25-man roster through non-trade waivers, and several players, including potential trade chips Ty Wigginton and Luke Scott, did not clear and cannot be traded for the remainder of this season. According to two industry sources, both Wigginton and Scott were claimed by other clubs and pulled back by the Orioles. They can't be removed from waivers a second time if claimed again, so Wigginton, a 2010 All-Star and a pending free agent, and Scott, the club's leading home run hitter, will remain with the Orioles.

That sucks for these guys. I bet they had all their toes and fingers crossed that they were going to get the hell outta dodge...

why so? things are looking up for the O's with the new mgr! they have a lot of good, young players and will be much better next year.

I think I've heard that song before. I don't believe that managers win games. The good ones just don't lose games. Players are the guys that need to perform. You may be right and the O's do seem to have some good young talent, but we'll see. A hot streak in August when you were the worst team in baseball all year doesn't necessarily mean money in the bank next year. But, we'll see. That's what makes the hot stove league worthwhile!

This is pretty stupid. Wiggy is a free agent at the end of the year. Why the O's are completely closed to the idea of trading him for a good prospect is beyond me.

So what if they trade him? He'll just be a rental for some other team.... then they can re-sign him in the off-season, if he truly wants to be in Baltimore.

There's a reason the O's have occupied the AL East basement for so long. Here's a good example. The O's have a great history, a great park, and some great fans.... they deserve better.

As for Luke Scott, I think he has another year of arbitration.

Problem is both are 32 years old and Wigginton turns 33 in October. By the time this O's team has the possibilty of being good. These guys will be on the downside of their careers. Scott broke in late, didn't make this debut in the bigs til he was 27 years old.

Their ownership is god awful cheap and meddles into personnel decisions... that sums up their putridness over the last decade or so.

Both Luke Scott and Ty Wigginton would be great additons for any of the clubs STILLl in contention and in the playoff hunt this season. They are two players that the Baltimore Orioles could really use to build a better team around for the future
Although the ownership is downright tarrible and cheap in Baltimore; Now with Buck Showalter there Maybe the ownership is seeing the light and will start improving and the O's will sign Ty Wigginton to keep him in Baltimore and the Birds can start getting back to winning ways
