08:02 AM ET 08.18 | Heading into their important AL Central series, Ozzie Guillen, as he is accustomed to doing, made some headlines. Between replies expressing his admiration for the Minnesota Twins and manager Ron Gardenhire, Guillen made a point Tuesday night to stress that it's not all hugs and kisses once the first pitch is thrown and until the final out is made. "It's not a friendly rivalry," Guillen said. "I hate them. As soon as the game starts, we hate each other. They're my friend. I talk to them before the game. I talk to them after the game. I always have a smile with Gardy and the coaching staff. But as soon as the game starts, we're not friends any more. We have a job to do."

NL Central???

I was hoping for more in this series, and the season. I was hoping for excitement down the stretch. Unfortunately, we won't get that, as it seems as though Detroit and Chicago are laying down. Oh well.

You're not very good at gloating. Really coming off as phony. Congrats on the extra innings win, but take your head out of your arse guy.

Who's Ozzie trying to fire up with that lame statement? His "hatred" is quite tempered if he can qualify when and where it occurs.

I thought the same thing. More quality reporting from Chicagobreakingsports.com and another great catch by SI before going to print.

What's more dramatic than a 10th inning walk off, come-from-behind blast? Still lots of games left...get real WTIG. It's not over until game one of ALDS. Nevertheless, go Twins!

August 18, 2010  09:05 AM ET

Sounds good to me, Ozzie is great for the game. Nothing wrong with a little BS in a pennant race. Both teams play the game the right way, I think Ozzie hates all team's he competes against, especially if there ahead of the sox in the standings. It's a between the lines thing.

The Sox whole 'streak' was due to playing lousy NL teams. They get back to the AL Central & can't win. Cleveland's a better opponent.

Shouldn't you also be congratulating the Twins for their 4 game lead, and the fact they've beaten the White Sox 9 of 13 games this year?

August 18, 2010  09:45 AM ET

The only thing big on the White Sox is Guillen's mouth.....

Absolutely, 100% right. The bottom line is that the White Sox are mentally defeated by the Twins even before the first pitch, much like the Twins have already lost to the Yankees before their first pitch. Here's hoping the Twins can continue their hot streak and overcome the Evil Empire in the playoffs this year! GO TWINS!

August 18, 2010  09:51 AM ET

No problem with the comments. I mean, what are you supposed to do with your opponents once the game starts? Hugs and kisses?

August 18, 2010  09:53 AM ET

Wow when did MLB do a re-alignment and move the Twins and White Sox into the NL Central? And if they are in the NL Central, does that mean the Cubs are in the AL Central now?

QUOTE(#21):

Guillen doesn't do a very convincing job of selling his hatred towards the Twins. The way his team has laid down against them, it always looks as if the Sox strive to be charitable towards their cause. I think Guillen really likes them.

He said last week that the Twins shouldn't be overlooked, and that Gardenhire not being considered for manager of the year is wrong.

I will say this: I have always liked and respected Ozzie as a manager. He says some off the wall stuff at times, but at the end of the day, he knows what he is doing.

Yeah and I hoped for something more in the Minnesota Senatorial race and you elected Al Franken................oh well.

I didn't vote for him.
