08:12 AM ET 08.20 | Paul Pierce on a European vocation? [Pierce] told CSN New England that he wants to finish his playing career in Europe once his NBA days are done. Pierce signed a deal this summer to play three more years as a Celtic, with an option for a fourth. That means he would be age 36 or 37 when he went to play in Greece or Italy. "As far as retiring from the NBA, I think I will be done after this contract because eventually I want to go overseas and play and live for a couple of years. That's why this is a big contract for me, knowing I'm going to retire a Boston Celtic. I want to go to either Italy or Greece for a year. I think I want to be able to bring my family over to just kind of share a different experience overseas for a couple of years, before I settle into retirement."

He can play with Rubio...he will probably still be there. Beats playing in Minnesota

Damn - Things are mighty slow when Pierce's retirement plans in four years is news on FN....

Maybe he wants to go to an easier league since he will be 37 by then. Or maybe his preferred destinations are Greece and Italy because he wants to live there for a year or two besides just playing ball.

Why not? He's got the money, he's won at the highest level, so why not?

I wish he'd go now.

Wade will concur with you on that knowing he won't be around to drop game winning shots in the playoffs. I feel bad for Miami... Allan Houston drop one on them, then Pierce. Then when Wade got Bosh and Lebron to help him overcome the Celts he forgot about the team that eliminated him and started talking like Lakers are the team to beat. I look forward to the showdown!

Vocation? Maybe the writer should go back to vocational school!

Pierce is already retired but just hasn't realized it yet. Hahahahahahahahaha.

Good morning Celtic fans.

Go Lakers!

August 20, 2010  10:25 AM ET

I really doubt this will happen.

Pierce is 5 minutes from DONE!

August 20, 2010  10:37 AM ET

iWhat is the problem? Championships, scoring titles, excellence at pretty much every level, so why not play in Europe for a while. The dude has some perspective. Sure he could go for two months ans spend his money...or he go for a few years and spend someone else's while doing something he loves...

No brainer...everybody should do it instead of being a washed up Allen Iverson or Stephon Marbury
