10:57 AM ET 08.21 | The season doesn't even need to get here for coach Steve Spurrier to fire up some quarterback controversy for South Carolina. After the team's third preseason scrimmage Thursday, Spurrier reiterated the notion that he'll play both junior Stephen Garcia and freshman Connor Shaw in the Sept. 2 opener against Southern Miss. Further, as of now, he said he doesn't know who will be the first quarterback in the game.

It won't matter. USCe is going nowhere.

How many years in a row does that make this, including NFL stint and UFelons.

Is coach Spurrier on the hot seat list yet, like Rodriguez, Neuheisel, Hawkins and the rest?

Van; Haven't heard anything about Steve Spurrier's job yet in South Carolina... Surprised Rick Neuheisel at UCLA, name would be mentioned

I seen Neuheisel's name on a list at the Bleacher report site, along with Ron Zook and the mad hatter Les Miles. But i agree with ya, its a cut throat business now a days.

Van you are right
It sure is a cut throat business.... I thought though I read something where it mentioned that everyone at UCLA was pleased with Ricks Neuheisel's ability in getting the UCLA program headed back in the right direction... Will check out that Bleacher Report...
Your Irish I think are looking good for this coming season... Kelly and his staff should get that situation squared around again.

The chicken curse will never die!

Spurrier is another coach that couldn't make it in the NFL and went back to college to find redemption.

well spurrier will never be on the hot seat at carolina b/c they have no expectations....

Spurrier will play ten QB's if that's what it takes to get 'em to throw the dang ball. He benched Weurffel after a bad first half at UF. There is no such thing as first team on a Spurrier squad. You either play hot or ride the rail.

And he's not on any hot seat - so long as there are still expectations high enough to fill the seats. Steady incremental improvement and consecutive bowl appearances are enough for now, but it's still gonna take some higher performance levels to stay more than three more years (current contract). I don't think he'll wait that long. If it doesn't look promising, he'll retire and be an announcer/analyst for.... golf (just put him one the "mike" and let him play).

What has South Carolina done since Spurrier has been there? He would have to be on the chopping block after this season, I would think.

Don't see your point. He has the best record USC has had in the time that he has been there. If he is on the hot seat, who can do a better job, with what he has had to work with. He an occasional 4 star recruit, but mainly 1, 2 and non rated recruits. He does pretty good, with the cards that he is dealt.

Spurrier and a QB controversey-there must be some mistake!!!

Oh, I didn't care for them, long before those whippings.
