The Cowboys will bring in suspended and troubled defensive tackle Tank Johnson to Valley Ranch today for a physical, multiple sources said. With depth concerns at nose tackle, the Cowboys are contemplating signing Johnson, but it comes with a risk. He is serving an eight-game suspension without pay for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

Doesn't he have to be on a roster for the suspension to begin? So if they signed him now, he wouldn't be eligible until game 11. Teams better hurry if they want him to actually play this year.

Naw, he doesn't have to be on a roster.

I am now a Texans Fan........I am MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont like this........

Dbrude! and Chaz.......You better let me be a Texans Fan! I will get my Jacoby Jones Jersey!

Don't do it Jerry!!

September 18, 2007  08:31 AM ET

Don't do it...it makes no sense they sign now then he would have to sit for 8 games and we would sit have a hole at NT don't do it Jerry...DON'T DO IT

September 18, 2007  08:42 AM ET

wonder if he'll pull a gun on the team doctor when he says, "turn you head and cough."

September 18, 2007  08:44 AM ET

The Cowboys should do it. I don't think Ratliff is the answer for the whole year. And we need depth at NT. I'm sure they'll sign him for a small contract. And if he misses up, just cut him. No big loss.

September 18, 2007  08:45 AM ET

As I said before, does this really surprise anyone that the Cowboys would take a chance on Tank Johnson?

September 18, 2007  08:56 AM ET

Before the season started someone on this form said this would happen. Look like that person was on to something and his second team was the Raiders.

September 18, 2007  08:56 AM ET

Thug on the radar screen Jerry watch out!!!

September 18, 2007  09:08 AM ET

You people are acting like he was out robbing people. So what he had an arsenal in his crib.... Isn't in the constitution that we are allowed to bear arms?? So what if his guns had the serial numbers scratched off!!! lol. But really though, what did he do that was so wrong?

September 18, 2007  09:28 AM ET

I think that if they sign him to a small contract with performance based incentives he could help out our d-line immensly.

September 18, 2007  09:36 AM ET

but he could - and likely would, I'm sure - just wait till a team needed him bad enough to sign him to a bigger contract, rather than take scratch from dallas. Worth a flyer though, he can certainly help shore up a defence, as long as he is in game shape when he gets back from the suspension

September 18, 2007  09:39 AM ET

Has anyone told Dallas yet that he's not a nose tackle?

September 18, 2007  09:42 AM ET

It's not that bad, AL. Out of all the stuff that came out last year with the suspensions, I think Tank was the least despicable out of them.

I've got family members and friends that love guns too, and occasionally make bad choices, but that doesn't make them bad people.

But I do question how effective he'd be in a 3-4. He's more of a pass rushing DT, specializes in making moves between the gaps rather than soaking up blocks. Doesn't make sense to me with Dallas' D.

September 18, 2007  09:48 AM ET

all i have to say is big time Defensive Tackle

September 18, 2007  09:50 AM ET

Go ahead jerry, he ought to fin in with the all-convict squad nicely! lol

September 18, 2007  09:51 AM ET

A good move as far as I'm concerned. It will be his last chance as well.

September 18, 2007  09:52 AM ET

Big Time 3-4 NT........No....But in Wade Phillips Scheme.....the NT moves around so much to avoid Double teams it could actually work.

Even though it improves my team......I have stated from the beginning I dont want him. I will stick to it. But it seems as though Tank wants to play for Dallas..........If he keeps his nose clean and works hard.....He could get a good Contract Extension at the end of the year.

No risk, plenty of upside. He's going to play somewhere, so why not with the Cowboys?

Jones is smart to shop for bargains; Tank has got a big "Sale" sign on his butt right now, and can be gotten cheap. Smart move.
